BRADFORD SIGNS FREE AGENT CONTRACT WITH TEXANS
Houston Texans Press Release
posted 03/10/02
 | | Corey Bradford |
The Texans have signed free agent wide receiver Corey Bradford, the third unrestricted free agent to sign with the team. Bradford spent the past four seasons with the Green Bay Packers as their third wide receiver.
"Going into free agency our objectives were to sign an outside linebacker, center, and wide receiver," said Texans general manager Charley Casserly. "Not only did we fill these needs in the first week of free agency, but we filled them with our first choices at each of these positions."
Bradford, 6-1, 197, had 71 catches for 1,190 yards and seven touchdowns in four seasons with Green Bay. The fifth-year player joined the Packers as a fifth round selection in the 1998 NFL draft after playing just one season of college football at Jackson State.
In 2001, Bradford had 31 catches for 526 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games played with six starts. He recorded two 100+ yard games, 117 at Atlanta (11/18) and 111 yards at New York Giants (1/6). Started two games in an injury-plagued 2000 season, suffering a fractured fibula in the preseason and a right knee/quad strain later in November and finished the season on injured reserve.
He played in all 16 games with two starts in 1999, finishing fourth on the team with 37 catches for 637 yards and five touchdowns, all career highs. As a rookie he saw action in eight games, catching three passes for 27 yards and returning two kickoff returns for 33 yards.
Bradford played just one season of college football at Jackson State after transferring from Hinds (Miss.) Community College where he was on a track scholarship. Named first team All-SWAC and SWAC 'Newcomer of the Year' after starting all 11 games and catching 48 passes for 937 yards and nine touchdowns. He was named all-state at cornerback at Clinton (La.) High School, where he was also all-district in basketball and won the state long jump championship.
The Texans currently have 60 players on the roster. The Texans acquired 18 players in the expansion draft, two by trade/waivers, 18 rookie and first year free agents, 19 veteran free agents, and three unrestricted free agents - WR Corey Bradford, C/G Steve McKinney and LB Kailee Wong.
