The Green Bay Packers have signed linebacker Anthony Sessions, a productive pass-rusher as a collegian at the University of Tennessee, as a free agent, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced today.
Sessions, 6-0 and 223 pounds, signed with Washington as an undrafted free agent in 2001 (April 27) and subsequently was placed on injured reserve by the Redskins August 29 after suffering a shoulder injury. He was waived off injured reserve October 30 and later signed to the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad December 12 for the balance of the '01 season.
At Tennessee, Sessions played in all 11 games as a senior in 2000 and ranked second in the Southeastern Conference in sacks at season's end with 9.5. The possessor of 4.59 speed in the '40,' he also recorded 83 tackles - eight for losses - and was credited with one forced fumble.
Sessions earlier had earned All-America honors at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, where he saw action as a defensive back, kick returner and quarterback.
