SCHNEIDER NAMED PERSONNEL ANALYST TO GENERAL MANAGER FOR PACKERS

posted 03/27/02

John Schneider, a home-grown product approaching his 10th season in the National Football League, has rejoined the Green Bay Packers as personnel analyst to the general manager, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced today.

Schneider, a 30-year-old Green Bay native who returns to both his personal and professional roots, rejoins the Packers organization after spending three years with the Kansas City Chiefs, one year with the Seattle Seahawks and, most recently, the 2001 season as vice president of personnel for the Washington Redskins.

"I am pleased to announce that John Schneider has been added to our personnel staff," Sherman said, "and will serve as an in-house counsel to me. He will address and evaluate needs of our team both in free agency and in the draft.

"Having begun his career here in Green Bay with Ron Wolf, having traveled to Seattle with Mike Holmgren and to Kansas City and Washington with Marty Schottenheimer, he brings with him some great experience. He is an excellent evaluator of talent and his expertise will be well utilized. John is excited about returning to his roots and home here in Green Bay."

Schneider began his NFL career with the Packers in 1992, working closely with then-Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf until he joined the Chiefs five years later.

During his tenure with the Packers as the assistant director of pro personnel, he played an integral role in the signing of numerous free agents who figured in Green Bay's drive to the Super Bowl XXXI championship.

He moved to the Kansas City organization in 1997 as the director of pro personnel, overseeing the Chiefs' scouting of all players with pro playing experience, including NFL Europe and the Canadian Football League as well as the NFL. His role also included extensive scouting of all Chiefs opponents as well as assisting with the acquisition of free agents.

Schneider subsequently signed on as director of player personnel for the Seattle Seahawks in 2000, rejoining Holmgren, with whom he had worked while in the Packers organization.

A year later, he was reunited with Schottenheimer, accompanying him to Washington as the Redskins' vice president of personnel in 2001.

A native of De Pere, Wis., Schneider earned degrees in both history and education at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. As a running back at De Pere's Abbot Pennings High School, he earlier closed out his prep career as one of the school's all-time leading rushers.

John and his wife, Traci, are the parents of a 3-month-old son, Benjamin John, born January 4.

"I am happy to be back with the Packers," Schneider said of his return. "This is the best organization in pro sports."
