World Bowl Race Explained

The race for places in World Bowl XI at Hampden Park, Glasgow, on June 14 could be the closest battle in NFL Europe League history.

With two weeks to go in the season, four teams remain in the hunt for the championship game, including three teams bidding for a record fifth appearance in the big game - and the host team themselves, the Scottish Claymores.

One team has a shot at clinching a World Bowl berth in Week Nine. Another could also be in a position to clinch if other results go their way. But if Scotland and Rhein are victorious this week, it will be the first time in league history that Week 10 has arrived without either World Bowl contestant having been decided.

Confused? We hope you won't be. So to begin with, here is a reminder of the NFL Europe League's tiebreaker system.

If two or more clubs finish with identical won-lost-tied percentage, the following steps will be taken until a winner is determi..

Nall Named NFL Europe Offensive Player Of The Week

Scottish Claymores quarterback Craig Nall has been named Offensive Player of the Week following his 300-yard passing display against the Amsterdam Admirals in Week 8.

The remaining three Players of Week 8 participated in the Rhein Fire-Berlin Thunder game - Fire defensive end Jesse Warren, Thunder kicker J.R. Jenkins and Fire German defensive lineman Bastian Lano.

Nall, of the Green Bay Packers, became the first Claymores quarterback since Dameyune Craig on June 13, 1999, to throw for 300 yards in a game when he completed 22 of 31 attempts for 313 yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. That performance saw Nall post a 135.6 quarterback rating and helped Scotland stay in the World Bowl hunt with a 31-20 road victory over the Admirals.

Claymores head coach Gene Dahlquist said: "Craig raised the bar for himself with that performance against the Admirals on Saturday night."

Wisconsin, Minority-Owned Businesses Play Major Roles
in Lambeau Field Project

Wisconsin businesses have been paid nearly $182 million for work performed on the Lambeau Field redevelopment project. That's nearly three-quarters of the total construction costs to date.

"We're very impressed with the way the numbers are coming in, not only for Wisconsin businesses, but for minority-owned businesses, as well as businesses in Brown County," said John Jones, Green Bay Packers Executive Vice President and COO. "From the very start of this project, we wanted to be sure state, local and minority businesses played significant roles in the construction."

The latest Targeted Business Report for the Lambeau Field project indicates that $181,940,851 was paid to Wisconsin-based businesses, representing 71.8% of the $247,910,700 in construction costs to date.

The report also indicates that Minority-owned businesses received $36,093,177, or 14.6% of the total, while Brown County-based businesses were paid $87,124,732, or 35.1% of the construction ..

The Green Bay Packers have claimed second-year offensive tackle Reggie Coleman on waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced Thursday.

The 6-5 and 297-pound Coleman, a two-year starter at Tennessee as a collegian, was a sixth-round draft selection of the Washington Redskins in 2002, the 192nd player chosen. Placed on waivers Sept. 1 in the team's final roster reduction for the regular season, he was signed to Washington's practice squad where he spent the first four weeks of the season before signing with Cincinnati Oct. 1. He remained a member of the Bengals' 53-man roster for the last 12 weeks of the season but did not appear in a game.

Packers Re-Sign C Frank Winters As Free Agent

The Green Bay Packers have re-signed center Frank Winters, a 17th-year professional, as a free agent, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced Thursday.

A Packer since 1992, Winters had been placed on waivers Monday because of salary cap constraints, to facilitate his re-signing at a lower salary.

The 39-year-old Winters, one of the most durable performers in Packers history, originally had been targeted for a backup role heading into the 2002 season, but subsequently found himself playing in all 16 games and making 10 starts after injuries at both center and tackle triggered the need for his services.

Thrust into a starting role almost immediately when incumbent center Mike Flanagan broke the thumb on his snapping hand early in training camp, Winters later saw most of his action as a result of a pair of injuries to left tackle Chad Clifton, developments which required Flanagan to fill in for Clifton. Winters started each of the first three games - vs. Atlanta ..
