HOF Statue Looking For New Home
posted 06/23/2003
One of the most recognizable and most photographed Packer objects in the country is up for sale.
The 22-foot tall statue of the wide receiver, currently outside of the former Packer Hall of Fame, stands on top of an 11-foot long football, and is looking for a new home.
The statue, made of sculptured concrete with a tough acrylic finish, was recently refurbished by the Packer Hall of Fame, which has an investment in the statue of more than $38,000. The Hall of Fame is looking to recoup that investment and is now accepting bids from interested parties.
The successful bidder will be determined by the Board of Directors of the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame, Incorporated. The Board will consider the amount of the bid for the statue, intent, and location of use and the agreement to become a corporate sponsor of the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame.
The "Receiver" was unveiled June 8, 1985 in recognition of the professional forward pass - an element of football that revolutionized the game.
The "Receiver" has the number 88 on it, but represents no one in particular. The number 88 was chosen to conform to the NFL's policy of numbering receivers in the 80's.
Interested bidders should send their responses to the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 28287, Green Bay, WI 54324-0287 Attention: Denny Tattum. |
