The Green Bay Packers have signed free agent running back Dahrran Diedrick to the practice squad, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced Wednesday.

The 6-foot, 221-pound Diedrick, the eighth-ranking rusher in University of Nebraska history, originally signed with San Diego as an undrafted free agent May 2, 2003, and spent training camp and the preseason with the Chargers before being placed on waivers in the team's final roster reduction for the regular season September 1.

Diedrick (the first name is pronounced DARE-EN) had 146 yards of offense during the preseason, gaining 71 yards in 15 rushing attempts, a 4.7-yard average, and catching 9 passes for 75 yards.

As a collegian, Diedrick helped Nebraska's Cornhuskers capture the 2001 national championship, rushing for a team-leading 1,299 yards and subsequently closed out his career with 2,745 yards in 502 attempts, a 5.4-yard average, while scoring 26 touchdowns.

Nebraska's first scholarship recruit from Canada, Diedrick prepped at Cedarbrae Collegiate Institute in Scarborough, Canada, where he set an Ontario province record by rushing for 1,886 yards as a senior. A native of St. Annes, Jamaica, he also competed in track, wrestling and rugby in high school.

The newcomer has been assigned jersey number 28. Tight end Tony Donald was waived to make room for Diedrick on the practice squad.
