| Packers Sign WR Wilson Thomas To Practice Squad
The Green Bay Packers have signed wide receiver Wilson Thomas to the team's practice squad, GM//Head Coach Mike Sherman announced Wednesday. The possessor of impressive size at 6-5 and 207 pounds, the 24-year-old University of Nebraska alumnus was signed by Kansas City on May 5, 2003, and spent training camp and most of the preseason with the Chiefs before being placed on waivers August 25. He had been out of football since. As a collegian, Thomas saw action in 46 games for the Cornhuskers, with 27 starts, catching 68 passes for 977 yards (a 14.4-yard average) and six touchdowns. He started all 12 games as a senior in 2002 and caught a team-high 30 passes for 353 yards (an 11.8 average) and three TDs. Earlier, the Omaha native earned first team All-Nebraska honors from the Omaha World-Herald as a defensive lineman recording 90 tackles with 14.0 sacks as well as averaging 15.0 yards per catch on the offensive side of the football. The newcomer has been assigned jersey No. 19. Wide receiver Frank Rice was released to make room for Thomas on the practice squad. |
