Packers Award Junior Volunteer Stars Grants

The Green Bay Packers recently awarded 10 grants from its Junior Volunteer Stars program to non-profit organizations that sponsored a community involvement project performed by children, 18 years and younger, who attend school in Brown County.

The Green Bay Packers Junior Volunteer Stars, a new program in 2003, is designed to promote community investment and volunteerism in children via small-level donations. These donations must be used to finance a community improvement project, such as playground clean-up, repainting of graffiti-marked walls, planting a garden at a senior center and food and clothing distribution.

The grant recipients and their affiliations are as follows:

Washington Middle School Shoveling Snow for the Elderly Project -- Washington Middle School
Project: Shoveling snow for the elderly

St. Thomas More School Student Council -- St. Thomas More School
Project: Once-a-month community projects

Forest Glen Elementary School's "Timbertail Trackers" -- Forest Glen Elementary School
Project: Once-a-month community projects

Jackson School Service Stars -- Jackson Elementary School
Project: Once-a-month community projects

Brown County Youth Service Board (BCYSB) -- Volunteer Center Inc. of Brown County
Project: High school students recruiting other students for 'Youth Dishing Up Service,' a meal program for area assistance organizations, including Family Violence Center, Freedom House and Meals on Wheels

Denmark Elementary Nature Center Committee -- Denmark Elementary School
Project: Finish purchase and installation of split-rail fencing at school's nature center

Mrs. Wautlet's 3rd-Grade Class at Heritage Elementary -- Heritage Elementary School
Project: Once-a-month community projects

Ashwaubenon High School Art Club -- Ashwaubenon High School
Project: Work with Woodside Manor residents on art projects

Learning to Grow -- Chappell Elementary School
Project: Assist with improvement projects at the Golden House - a home for battered women and children

Weblos I Den -- Cub Scout Pack 4167, Meadowbrook Elementary School
Project: Plant flowerbeds on school property


Each grant recipient received a $500 grant.
