Packers Sign RB Dahrran Diedrick, LB Dave Moretti To Free Agent Contracts
posted 01/27/2004
The Green Bay Packers have signed running back Dahrran Diedrick, a member of the team's practice squad in 2003, and linebacker Dave Moretti to free-agent contracts, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced Tuesday.
Diedrick had two stints on the Packers' practice squad in 2003. He first signed with the club Sept. 24 and was released Oct. 20; he later signed Nov. 13 and remained on the squad through the end of the season.
The 6-foot, 225-pound former Cornhusker, the eighth-ranking rusher in University of Nebraska history, originally signed with San Diego as an undrafted free agent May 2, 2003, and spent training camp and the preseason with the Chargers before being placed on waivers in the team's final roster reduction for the regular season Sept. 1.
As a collegian, Diedrick helped Nebraska capture the 2001 national championship, rushing for a team-leading 1,299 yards, and subsequently closed out his career with 2,745 yards in 502 attempts, a 5.4-yard average, while scoring 26 touchdowns.
Moretti, a 6-1, 240-pound former Oregon Duck, was originally signed by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent May 5, 2003, and was waived in training camp, Aug. 27.
A two-year starter at Oregon, he finished his career with 220 tackles (109 solo), including 6 sacks and 20 stops for loss, plus 4 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception and 9 passes defensed. Moretti was a second-team All-Pacific 10 Conference selection as a senior, registering a team-leading 121 tackles (63 solo), including 4 sacks and 10 stops for loss. |
