* The position coach for the NFL's last two all-time rushing leaders: Walter Payton (Chicago, 1983-87) and Emmitt Smith (Arizona, 2003).

Falcons Hire Jeff Jagodzinski

The Atlanta Falcons Thursday announced the addition of tight ends coach Jeff Jagodzinski to head coach Jim Mora's staff.

Jagodzinski joins the Falcons after serving as tight ends coach with the Green Bay Packers. During his five seasons (1999-2003) with the Packers, Jagodzinski was instrumental in the development of two-time Pro Bowl tight end Bubba Franks, who in 2002 became the first Packers tight end since 1995 to accumulate more than 50 receptions in a season. The 16 touchdown receptions Franks accounted for between 2001-02 marked the sixth-highest two-season total for an NFL tight end in a 20-year span.

Jagodzinski (pronounced jay-gah-ZIN-ski) originally joined the Packers in 1999 after spending two years as offensive coordinator/offensive line coach at Boston College. During his two years in Chestnut Hill, the Eagles offense averaged more than 400 yards a game in both 1997 and 1998. The Eagles also allowed the fewest sacks in the Big East over that span.

Browns Name Ron Wolf Personnel Specialist

The Cleveland Browns have named Ron Wolf as a Personnel Specialist, President and CEO Carmen Policy announced Thursday.

Wolf, who as Executive Vice President and General Manager helped the Green Bay Packers capture consecutive NFC Championships in 1996-97 along with a 35-21 Super Bowl XXXI triumph over the New England Patriots, has worked in professional football for the last 41 years.

"I am really excited to be able to work with the Cleveland Browns," Wolf said. "I have a lot of respect for Carmen Policy and Butch Davis, and I look forward to helping them in any way they wish. Although I shall not be at their facility on a regular basis, I am confident that I can assist them in the ways they ask.

"I have always admired the Cleveland Browns organization from afar and have considered the Browns to be a storied franchise in much the same way as the Green Bay Packers. I believe they have a bright future, and I am ready to get started in this new role."

Kurt Schottenheimer, entering his 18th NFL season, is the Green Bay Packers' new defensive backs coach, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced Wednesday. Schottenheimer replaces Bob Slowik, hired Wednesday as the Packers' defensive coordinator.

Schottenheimer, 54, comes to Green Bay from the Detroit Lions, where he served the last two seasons as defensive coordinator. He's also worked with three other NFL teams: Washington (defensive coordinator, 2001); Kansas City (special teams, 1989-94; defensive backs, 1995-98; defensive coordinator, 1999-2000); and Cleveland (special teams, 1987-88).

"Kurt Schottenheimer has been in this league for a number of years and has been an excellent coach," Sherman said. "I have a lot of confidence in him. I think he's a good fit for our staff and our football team. He has a passion for football that excites me that when I talked to him down at the Senior Bowl was very evident."

Packers Name Bob Slowik Defensive Coordinator

The Green Bay Packers have named Bob Slowik assistant head coach/defensive coordinator, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced Wednesday.

Slowik, 49, is the ninth defensive coordinator in Green Bay history. He has served the last four seasons as the Packers' defensive backs coach, including the last two as assistant head coach. He has 27 years of coaching experience, 12 in the NFL and seven as a league defensive coordinator. Only six current defensive coordinators have more NFL experience in that role.

"I have a lot of confidence in Bob Slowik and his abilities," Sherman said. "I've watched him over the last four years and he's done a tremendous job in helping us grow as a football team and as a defense. My goal is for us to continue to do some of the things we do well, and to fix some of the things that need to be fixed, as simple as that. I don't think we're that far away and I think Bob Slowik is that guy that can help get us there."

The award recognizes the season's most outstanding performance on a Monday Night Football game.

Favre received nearly 20,000 votes from fans who made their selection on Snickers.com, clearly putting him ahead of Eagles QB Donovan McNabb and Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning.
Packers Sign RB Dahrran Diedrick, LB Dave Moretti To Free Agent Contracts

The Green Bay Packers have signed running back Dahrran Diedrick, a member of the team's practice squad in 2003, and linebacker Dave Moretti to free-agent contracts, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced Tuesday.

Diedrick had two stints on the Packers' practice squad in 2003. He first signed with the club Sept. 24 and was released Oct. 20; he later signed Nov. 13 and remained on the squad through the end of the season.

The 6-foot, 225-pound former Cornhusker, the eighth-ranking rusher in University of Nebraska history, originally signed with San Diego as an undrafted free agent May 2, 2003, and spent training camp and the preseason with the Chargers before being placed on waivers in the team's final roster reduction for the regular season Sept. 1.

As a collegian, Diedrick helped Nebraska capture the 2001 national championship, rushing for a team-leading 1,299 yards, and subsequently closed out his career with 2,745 yards in 502 attempts, a 5.4-yard average..

The Green Bay Packers have signed linebacker Steve Josue and wide receiver Scottie Vines, both members of the team's practice squad in 2003, to free-agent contracts, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced Monday.

Josue, the Packers' fourth of four picks in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL draft, spent the entire season on Green Bay's practice squad after being waived in the final cutdown for the regular season (Sept. 1). The 6-2, 222, Carson-Newman graduate played in four preseason games and logged 4 tackles (3 solo) with the defense, as well as 1 special teams stop.

Vines, a Wyoming alum, was signed to the Packers' practice squad Sept. 2 and was later placed on the practice squad/injured list (knee) Nov. 25. The 6-2, 203-pound Vines originally signed as a rookie free agent with Detroit May 2, 2003, and was waived Aug. 27.

Download The 2003 Season-Ending Dope Sheet

Two years after he co-founded the Packers with Curly Lambeau, George Calhoun began writing a piece called The Dope Sheet, which served as the official press release and game program from 1921-24.

Honoring Calhoun, the first publicity director, the Packers ran this weekly feature in their release this season, and made it available to fans exclusively on Packers.com.

The final 2003 edition of the Dope Sheet is a must for fans with an unquenchable thirst for Packers information, from stats to notes to record-watches.

Some of the highlights of the season-ending edition are listed below. Dope Sheets from throughout the season can be found by accessing the pregame sections of the Packers.com Game Centers.

MOST UNIQUE OFFENSE EVER: Tom Rossley in 2003 fielded one of the best overall offenses in NFL history. In fact, no other team in league annals has:

Sherman 'Struggles' With 2003's End, But Sees Strides

There is, inevitably, what might have been...

It could hardly be otherwise for the 2003 Green Bay Packers, considering how close they came to making the "Big Dance."

And, potentially, capturing a Super Bowl ring.

Little wonder, then, that GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman described himself as "still struggling" with the reality of the overtime divisional playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles as he conducted his season-ending press conference, held at mid-week following that much-analyzed misadventure.

Throughout the 53-minute session, he made no attempt to minimize the dimensions of the disappointment he was confronting, explaining, "I'm not taking anything away from Philly, but I felt we had the opportunities to win the game."

In company and contrast with the pain of elimination, Sherman exhibited parallel emotions of pride and excitement as he both reviewed the season - punctuated by a second straight NFC North Division championship and a thi..

Mike Flanagan Named To NFC Pro Bowl Squad

Green Bay Packers center Mike Flanagan has been named to the National Football Conference squad for the Pro Bowl, replacing injured center Olin Kreutz of the Chicago Bears, the National Football League announced Wednesday.

Kreutz withdrew because of a residual ankle sprain and bruised knee.

Flanagan, elected as a first alternate at the position in last month's Pro Bowl voting, will be making his first Pro Bowl appearance. He is the first Green Bay center to be named to the NFC squad since Frank Winters replaced the Dallas Cowboys' injured Ray Donaldson in the 1996 all-star game.

Flanagan, who started all 16 games in the '03 season, joins three teammates on the NFC roster - running back Ahman Green, guard Marco Rivera and tight end Bubba Franks.

Quarterback Brett Favre also was elected to the NFC squad but officially withdrew today because of the thumb fracture he suffered at St. Louis Oct. 19, which continued to trouble him for the balance of t..

The Green Bay Packers recently awarded 10 grants from its Junior Volunteer Stars program to non-profit organizations that sponsored a community involvement project performed by children, 18 years and younger, who attend school in Brown County.

The Green Bay Packers Junior Volunteer Stars, a new program in 2003, is designed to promote community investment and volunteerism in children via small-level donations. These donations must be used to finance a community improvement project, such as playground clean-up, repainting of graffiti-marked walls, planting a garden at a senior center and food and clothing distribution.

The grant recipients and their affiliations are as follows:

Green Bay Packers tight end Bubba Franks has been named to the National Football Conference squad for the Pro Bowl, replacing injured tight end Jeremy Shockey of the New York Giants, the National Football League announced Tuesday.

Shockey withdrew because of season-ending knee injury suffered Nov. 9.
Franks, an elected starter for the NFC squad each of the past two years, had been named a first alternate at the position in last month's Pro Bowl voting. A standout blocker, the 6-6, 263-pound former Miami Hurricane caught 30 passes for 241 yards, an 8.0-yard average, and 4 touchdowns during the regular season and added 3 catches for 39 yards and 1 touchdown in the playoffs.

"I'm very happy to have the opportunity to represent the Packers in Hawaii," Franks said. "It's an honor to be voted in by your fellow peers, people you kind of look up to sometimes, so it's a definitely an honor."

Al Harris Named NFL Defensive Player Of The Week

Cornerback Al Harris of the Green Bay Packers, quarterback Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts and kicker Gary Anderson of the Tennessee Titans are the NFL Defensive, Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for Wild Card Weekend (January 3-4), the NFL announced Wednesday.

Harris earned defensive honors for his play in the Packers' thrilling 33-27 overtime win over the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field, earning Green Bay its seventh trip to the NFC Divisional Playoffs in the past 11 years. The Packers will travel to Philadelphia for a meeting with the NFC's No. 1 seeded Eagles on Sunday.

Harris, who played in 80 games for the Eagles from 1998-2002, helped make a matchup against his former team a reality with a game-winning 52-yard interception return touchdown in overtime to give the Packers the victory. Harris' touchdown was the first defensive touchdown in a playoff overtime game in NFL history.

Download The Divisional Playoff Dope Sheet

Two years after he co-founded the Packers with Curly Lambeau, George Calhoun began writing a piece called The Dope Sheet, which served as the official press release and game program from 1921-24.

Honoring Calhoun, the first publicity director, the Packers are running this weekly feature in their release, which is being made available to fans exclusively on Packers.com.

A complete edition of the Dope Sheet will be available each week in PDF format, located in the Packers.com Game Centers.

Here are some highlights from the Divisional Dope Sheet, which includes pages dedicated to the record achievements of Brett Favre and Ahman Green in 2003:

Packers-Seahawks Recap

The "Wild Card" designation was hardly a misnomer for what transpired in the Packers' playoff matchup with the Seattle Seahawks in Lambeau Field Sunday.

Before it was over, they had combined for more than 700 yards of offense, 60 points and a breathtaking overtime finish that found lingering fans still enthusiastically chanting, "Go Pack, Go" well after the Packers' Al Harris had intercepted a Matt Hasselbeck pass and cantered into the end zone with the game's winning touchdown to seal a 33-27 sudden death victory.

The first half, a relatively routine affair, had given little indication of what was to come. It ended with the Packers out front, 13-6, by way of a 23-yard Brett Favre scoring pass to tight end Bubba Franks, who managed to find himself alone in the end zone with 4:37 remaining in the second quarter, and a pair of Ryan Longwell field goals.

What eventuated from there was a considerably different matter. The Seahawks suddenly took the offensive - ..

Packers-Eagles Preview

It was, first and foremost, a classic football game - with a spectacular, storybook finish...

And, beyond that, one with historic as well as competitive ramifications.

As a result, the Green Bay Packers will be winging to Philadelphia this weekend for an NFL postseason game for the first time in 43 years - following a dramatic, 33-27 overtime victory over the Seattle Seahawks in their Sunday Wild Card Playoff Game at Lambeau Field.

Appropriately, former Eagle Al Harris provided the decisive heroic, intercepting a Matt Hasselbeck pass and returning it 52 yards for the winning touchdown at 4:25 of the sudden death overtime, sending 70,000-plus of the faithful home in vocal delight.

Also poetically, his climactic theft-and-run propelled the Packers into a Divisional Playoff opposite the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia next Sunday afternoon (Jan. 11), with kickoff set for 3:45, CST, Wisconsin time.
The Packers thus will be re..

Packers Announce Ticket Plans For Possible Super Bowl Appearance

Should the Green Bay Packers advance to Super Bowl XXXVIII and a fifth appearance in pro football's ultimate game, the bulk of the ticket allotment will be made available to season ticketholders, the team announced Monday.

Club President Robert E. Harlan reiterated the organization's longstanding policy in addressing ticket allocations in the event that the Packers would win the National Football Conference championship and the right to meet the American Football Conference champions in the Super Bowl at Reliant Stadium in Houston on Sunday, Feb. 1.

"Because our season ticketholders repeatedly have demonstrated their loyalty with annual season-ticket sellouts in Lambeau Field since 1960, we want to make sure Super Bowl tickets are available to as many of them as possible," Harlan said.

"We believe the allocation plan we have in place is fair to all our season ticketholders," Harlan continued. "Every account - whether the Green package, Gold package, or club..
