The Green Bay Packers Friday re-signed cornerback/safety Bhawoh Jue to a restricted free-agent tender, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.
Jue is the team's final restricted free agent this offseason. The Packers had previously re-signed three other restricted free agents: safety Curtis Fuller (Feb. 25), tight end David Martin (Tuesday) and linebacker Torrance Marshall (Wednesday). Jue, Martin and Marshall did not receive offers from other teams during the restricted free-agent singing period, March 3-April 16. Green Bay did not extend an offer to defensive tackle Rod Walker, its fifth restricted free agent, allowing him to sign with Carolina.
Throughout this past season, Jue worked in Green Bay's 'nickel' and 'dime' packages as he returned from a hamstring/groin problem that had limited him to four games the year prior. Also a regular on special teams, he saw action in all 16 regular-season games, plus both playoff contests. He made 24 tackles (all solo), including 11/2 sacks (his first as a professional) and one forced fumble (Jerry Rice, Dec. 22 at Oakland), along with a career-high seven passes defensed. Jue also totaled 54 special-teams blocks and a career-best 12 kick-coverage tackles, and during the postseason added one sack among three tackles, plus a pass defensed.
Jue, 24, earned Green Bay's defensive rookie of the year honors in 2001, when he replaced LeRoy Butler in the Packers' lineup after Butler sustained a career-ending injury, Nov. 18 vs. Atlanta. The 6-foot, 200-pound Jue joined the Packers as their first of two third-round selections (71st overall) in the 2001 NFL Draft.
A three-year letterman at Penn State, Jue and his family left war-ravaged Liberia, where he was born, for the United States in 1980. His name is pronounced BAU JOO.
