Larry Weyers, chairman, president and CEO of WPS Resources, has been elected to the Executive Committee of the Green Bay Packers, club president Bob Harlan announced late Tuesday following the team's quarterly meeting of its board of directors, conducted on the fourth floor of the Lambeau Field Atrium. Weyers replaces Jim Temp, a member of the Executive Committee since 1993.

Weyers' addition marks the first change to the Packers' seven-member Executive Committee in 11 years. Since 1993, Harlan has been in place as president, John Fabry has been the vice president, Peter Platten has been the secretary, John Underwood has been the treasurer, and three others - Dr. Don Harden, Don Schneider and Temp - have been at-large members of the Executive Committee.

The Packers' Executive Committee, elected from the team's board of directors, directs corporate management, approves major capital expenditures, establishes broad policy and monitors management's performance in conducting the business and affairs of the corporation.

"Our plan is to have Larry work closely with John Underwood for the next year, then take over as the corporation's treasurer when John is scheduled to leave the Executive Committee in 2005," said Harlan in announcing Weyers' addition. "It will be difficult to replace John's 14 years of experience on the Executive Committee, but Larry has superb credentials.

"He is the leader of a major company and works on a daily basis with high-level financial statements. Larry also deals with both shareholders and the media regarding the financial performance of his company. We look forward to further utilizing his vast experience as a member of our Executive Committee.

"At the same time, we will miss the tremendous contributions that Jim Temp has given us over the last decade," Harlan continued. "His experiences as a former player and as someone who has spent nearly 50 years in Green Bay have given our Executive Committee an invaluable perspective."

Weyers, who turned 59 today, currently serves as chairman, president and chief executive officer of WPS Resources, a holding company with subsidiaries actively involved in the energy industry. He also holds the same three titles with the principal subsidiary of WPS Resources, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, and sits on the board of directors of both firms. Prior to joining Wisconsin Public Service Corporation in 1985, Weyers was employed as a management consultant in the energy practice of Towers Perrin.

Originally elected to the Packers' board of directors in December 2002, Weyers holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Doane College in Crete, Neb., a Master of Science degree in engineering from Columbia University in New York City and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. He also is a registered professional engineer.

Weyers has served on the investment and directors affairs committees since joining the team's board 17 months ago. He also is on the board of directors of Bellin Health, Competitive Wisconsin Inc., WS Packaging and Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, in addition to serving on the advisory board for Associated Bank-Green Bay. Weyers is a past member of the boards of Green Bay Partners-in-Education, Forward Wisconsin, the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and of Downtown Green Bay, Inc.

Temp, now a retired insurance executive, first joined the Packers' board of directors June 1, 1987, and subsequently was elected to the Executive Committee May 26, 1993, replacing Tony Canadeo. A native of La Crosse, Wis., Temp was the second-round draft choice of Green Bay in 1955 after a standout collegiate career at Wisconsin, and played 43 games at defensive end for the Packers from 1957-60 following military service.

Temp and fellow board member Terry Bogart are slated to take on director emeritus status at the Packers' July 28 Annual Meeting, scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Resch Center in Green Bay. Both Temp and Bogart have reached the birth date that triggers the corporation's mandatory retirement date for its directors.
