Packers Re-Sign Curry, Place Williams On Practice Squad/Injured

The Green Bay Packers Thursday re-signed to their practice squad safety Julius Curry, and placed safety Wendell Williams on the practice squad/injured list (shin), GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.

Curry, 6-0, 204-pound University of Michigan product, rejoins the Packers for his second stint on the team's practice squad this season, after previously being released on Sept. 21.

The Green Bay Packers Wednesday re-signed safety Curtis Fuller, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.

The move provides depth in the Green Bay secondary, where starters Darren Sharper and Al Harris sustained knee injuries in last Sunday's 41-20 win over Dallas. Neither player, however, has been ruled out of this Sunday's game at Washington (12 p.m. CST, FOX).

Fuller, a 5-10, 188-pound defensive back out of Texas Christian, played in nine games with five tackles (all solo) and one pass defensed as a reserve last season, after the team claimed him on waivers from Seattle, Sept. 1, 2003. The Packers re-signed him as a restricted free agent, Feb. 25, then terminated him in the final preseason roster reduction, Sept. 5. He had been out of football until Wednesday.

A fourth-year NFL veteran, Fuller originally entered the NFL as the Seahawks' fourth-round selection in the 2002 draft.

Green carried 15 times for 163 yards and two touchdowns, including a historic 90-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The 90-yard dash was his second career touchdown run of at least 90 yards, joining BO JACKSON as the only players in NFL history to accomplish the feat twice.

Smith, a 6-5, 292-pound veteran out of Florida State, had re-signed with the Packers Oct. 7, taking the roster spot of Doug Pederson, placed on injured reserve. He provided depth on the defensive line with the Packers' top two nose tackles, Grady Jackson and James Lee, out with injuries.
The Green Bay Packers have something of interest for you.
The Packers on Nov. 9 will host 'Football 101, an NFL Workshop for Women,' an interactive and entertaining evening geared for women to learn the basics of football.

While many football observers know the Green Bay Packers boast a fan base that is among the largest and most supportive in all of professional sports, many do not realize that almost half of the Packers Nation are women.
'Football 101' recognizes that fact. Sponsored by <A href="http://www.usingers.com/"target="new">Usingers Famous Sausage and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, this year's event will take place in the Lambeau Field Atrium and in the Don Hutson Center.
Packers-Titans Press Box Notes

TONIGHT: The Titans and Packers, each with a sense of urgency rather than desperation, square off in a battle of 1-3 clubs hoping to turn over a new leaf...Polls and magazines have dubbed Brett Favre and Steve McNair, two close friends who share the same agent and live in the same town, the toughest quarterbacks in the NFL...The Packers have not lost four straight games since Sept. 27-Oct. 17, 1991...Combining records over the last 12 games of their respective seasons from 2000-03, only two teams -- Philadelphia (37-11, .771) and Tennessee (35-13, .729) - own a better record than the Packers (33-15, .688). Two-time Super Bowl champion New England is also 33-15 over the span.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR TONIGHT

BRETT FAVRE:
Will tie Bart Starr for No. 1 on the Packers' all-time list with 196 games played.

Can extend his streak of games with a touchdown pass to 30, tying Dan Marino's 1985-87 stretch for the second-longest in NFL history.

ABC's MNF Pulls Into Lambeau For Titans-Packers Showdown

Normal sightings in Wisconsin include clean lakes, shady parklands, extensive dairy cases in supermarkets, and the Green Bay Packers winning football games at Lambeau Field. Recently, only three of these sightings have been visible because the Packers are winless at home this season (0-2).

This week, the Tennessee Titans hope to keep it that way as ABC's NFL Monday Night Football rolls onto Lombardi Avenue for a prime-time showdown.

Two of the NFL's top quarterbacks, each of whom have "NFL MVP" on their football resumes - the Packers' BRETT FAVRE and STEVE MC NAIR of the Titans - take center stage. Both hail from Mississippi, whose state motto is "Virtue et armis," which means, "By valor and arms." And it is valor and toughness each of these quarterbacks has exhibited as their arms have led their teams to victories for years.

When asked which quarterback is the toughest, Packers head coach MIKE SHERMAN says, "I think you are 1 and 1a right there - I th..

Wabeno-Laona's Ron Swanson Named Packers H.S. Coach Of The Week

Ron Swanson, head coach of the Wabeno-Laona Rebels, has been selected as the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week for Week 6, the Packers announced Friday.

The Rebels beat Crandon, 29-7, in Week 6 to remain perfect on the season, with a record of 6-0 (4-0 Northern Lakes Conference). In the past three seasons, Swanson's teams have lost only one conference game.

"We're very honored to receive this award," said Swanson. "From a coaching standpoint any award that any coach receives is a result of the assistants, the team, all of the individuals that go into the overall picture. Even though I'm the one receiving the award, it's still a whole team effort and I can't say how proud I am of our team and our program."

Wabeno-Laona is a co-op, combining the Wabeno Logrollers and the Laona Fighting Kellys. The football team goes by the nickname of the Rebels. Swanson has three assistant coaches, Pat Lowery, Dan Lazzeroni and Tom Enders, on staff for his prog..

Packers Re-sign Smith, Place Pederson On I.R, Sign Millhouse To Practice Squad

The Green Bay Packers Thursday re-signed defensive tackle Larry Smith, placed quarterback Doug Pederson on injured reserve and signed to their practice squad cornerback Kelvin Millhouse, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.

Smith, a 6-5, 292-pound lineman out of Florida State, rejoins the Packers for the second straight season. Like 2003, this year the Packers released him at the end of camp (Sept. 5) and brought him back after injuries to their interior defensive line. Last year after re-signing Oct. 9, Smith played in the final 12 games, including playoffs.

Pederson, a 12th-year veteran and the Packers' No. 2 quarterback for five of the last seven seasons (1998, 2001-04), sustained three injuries in Sunday's game vs. the Giants: a cracked bone (called the transverse process) in his back, a torn muscle in his side and a broken rib. Despite sustaining the injury in the third quarter, after a Giants player hit him just before he went out of bounds, Pederson stayed i..

Avoid Green Bay Packers Ticket Scams

Because of the long waiting list to buy Green Bay Packers tickets, desperate fans are often conned by rip-off artists advertising on line and in classified ads.

For example, someone on E-bay is offering his rights to purchase season tickets for $6000 (tickets not included)! He claims that the Packers Ticket office approves of the transaction, but this isn't true. If fact, the guy isn't even a season ticket holder.

In another Internet scam, instant messaging is being used to solicit Packers fans while they are on line in chat rooms. Fans are solicited to purchase Packers season tickets at or below cost and are requested to send payment prior to receiving tickets.

"In addition to these rip-offs," says Janet Jenkins, administrator of Trade and Consumer Protection, "fans are also misled by a number of websites which illegally use the Green Bay Packers and Lambeau Field names, which are trademarks of the Green Bay Packers.

Download The Week 5 Dope Sheet

Two years after he co-founded the Packers with Curly Lambeau, George Calhoun began writing a piece called The Dope Sheet, which served as the official press release and game program from 1921-24.

Honoring Calhoun, the first publicity director, the Packers are running this weekly feature as their release, which is being made available to fans exclusively on Packers.com.

A complete edition of the Dope Sheet will be available each week during the season in PDF format, located in the Packers.com Game Centers.

Here are some highlights from the Week 5 Dope Sheet:

THIS WEEK -- TOUGHEST NFL QUARTERBACKS: Two of the toughest quarterbacks in NFL history square off on a national stage, both of whom sustained significant recent injuries. Fittingly, each former MVP refuses to let those injuries - a bruised sternum that landed Steve McNair in the hospital Sept. 26, and Brett Favre's softball-sized hamstring bruise, dislocated left shoulder and concussion ..

Seventh Packers FAN Hall Of Fame Honoree Sought

Please Note: As of November 1, the nomination phase has ended. Please check back with Packers.com on November 19th to vote for this year's Packers FAN Hall of Fame honoree.

The Green Bay Packers, the first professional football team to have its own hall of fame, enhanced that distinction in 1998 by establishing a Packers FAN Hall of Fame.

It was founded, in conjunction with the Packers Hall of Fame, for the purpose of annually honoring a devout and longtime Packers fan.

As has been the case each of the past six years, fans have been asked to nominate themselves for recognition by a selection committee. The late Mel Knoke of Appleton was chosen as the inaugural enshrinee in the FAN Hall of Fame. The 91-year-old Knoke, who died between the time of his election and enshrinement, was honored posthumously at the 1999 Packers Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, held March 6.

Packers Acquire O'Sullivan, Draft Choice For McKenzie

The Green Bay Packers Monday acquired quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan and a second-round selection in the 2005 draft from the New Orleans Saints for cornerback Mike McKenzie and a future conditional draft choice, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.

O'Sullivan, a 6-2, 220-pound passer out of Cal-Davis, is fresh off a spectacular campaign in NFL Europe. The third-year NFL player led the Frankfurt Galaxy to the 2004 World Bowl championship game, ranking second in NFLE with a 91.9 passer rating (120-for-196, 1,527 yards, 10 TDs, five INTs).

The Packers have been interested in O'Sullivan since the Saints took him in the sixth round of the 2002 draft.

The quarterback, inactive for his first 36 NFL games, has worked in New Orleans under Mike McCarthy, the Saints' offensive coordinator who has tutored Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Jake Delhomme, Rich Gannon and Matt Hasselbeck, among others.

O'Sullivan, 25, has led the Saints in preseason passing each of the la..

Packers-Giants Press Box Notes

TODAY: Tom Coughlin returns to Lambeau Field for the first time since he served on the Packers' staff from 1986-87, and Kurt Warner becomes the sixth former Brett Favre backup to duel the Packers' perennial starter...With a win, the Packers would be .500-or-better at the quarter pole for an 11th straight season, and for the 12th time in the last 13 years (the Favre era), remarkable consistency during the Salary Cap generation...Since Mike Sherman became Packers head coach in 2000, Green Bay and Philadelphia are the only NFL teams without a three-game losing streak. Sherman is the only active coach (minimum one season) who has never experienced a three-game slide.

SHERMAN STILL OWNS NFL'S BEST HOME RECORD: Since Mike Sherman took over the Packers in 2000, no other club has a better home-field record. Green Bay is 26-7 (.788), followed by St. Louis (26-8, .765), Denver (25-9, .735), Baltimore (24-9, .727), and Minnesota and Oakland (both 24-10, .706).

Flanagan Placed On Injured Reserve; Wells Promoted

The Green Bay Packers Saturday officially placed center Mike Flanagan on injured reserve and promoted center/guard Scott Wells from the practice squad to the active roster, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.

Grey Ruegamer, a sixth-year veteran with three career NFL starts at center with the Patriots, will assume Flanagan's starting role. With Flanagan battling tendinitis in his knee, Ruegamer took all mini-camp and training camp practice reps, and started the first three preseason games in Flanagan's absence.

Flanagan, 30, will undergo surgery as soon as next week to alleviate stress on his patellar tendon, which could have threatened his career had he continued to play. Instead, Flanagan will miss at least six months.

The 6-5, 297-pound Flanagan, a ninth-year veteran out of UCLA, earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2003, when the Packers rushed for a team-record 2,558 yards and allowed 19 sacks, a franchise low for a 16-game season. The debilitating tendi..

Saint Mary's Springs' Bob Hyland Named Packers H.S. Coach Of The Week

Bob Hyland, head coach of the Saint Mary's Springs (Fond du Lac) Ledgers, has been selected as the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week for Week 5, the Packers announced Friday.

The Ledgers bested Laconia, 39-13, in Week 5, to notch Hyland his career 300th victory. The victory boosted his coaching record to a lofty 300-80-2, becoming the first Wisconsin high school football coach to reach the 300-win plateau.

"To achieve 300 victories is really a dedication to the players and families we have here at Saint Mary's Springs as well as the dedication of the coaching staff," said Hyland. "Many of them are volunteer coaches and they put a lot of their time into the program, without their help, 300 or any victories would not be possible."

Hyland has eight assistant coaches on staff for his program of 70 players, with 50 of them on the varsity.

Saint Mary's Springs has started the season 2-3 (1-1 East Central Flyway-Rivers Conference). The team ..
