| Packers Sign RB James Jackson, Waive LB Rogers
In a move to add depth to their injured running back corps, the Green Bay Packers late Tuesday signed former Cleveland Brown James Jackson, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced. Linebacker Nick Rogers was waived to make room for Jackson on the roster. Jackson, a fourth-year player out of the University of Miami, had played in four contests for the Browns this year and rushed 12 times for 81 yards and made six receptions for 22 yards. He was waived Nov. 16. Over his career, Jackson has appeared in 43 games, with 16 starts, and rushed for 1,071 yards and five touchdowns on 321 carries and registered 30 receptions for 201 yards. The 5-10, 215-pound Jackson was selected by Cleveland in the third round (65th overall) in the 2001 NFL Draft. He finished his career in Miami ranking third on the school's all-time rushing list with 2,953 yards and 29 touchdowns on 541 carries. He played on the same Hurricanes squad with current Packers running back Najeh Davenport. Jackson will wear No. 20. Rogers had been on his second stint with the club this season. He first came to Green Bay via a waiver claim Sept. 6 and was released Oct. 16. He later was re-signed Oct. 19. Overall, he appeared in six games this season and registered five special teams tackles. Also Tuesday, the team made three practice squad moves, re-signing wide receiver Kelvin Kight, signing running back Chris Robertson and releasing safety David Young. Kight (who will continue to wear jersey No. 13) is back on the practice squad after having been waived Saturday to make room for running back Walter Williams on the 53-man roster. Robertson, a 6-1, 233-pound rookie out of Houston, has been out of football since finishing his Cougars career in 2002. He'll wear jersey No. 38. Young, a second-year player from Georgia Southern, originally was signed Oct. 19. |
