Packers Promote DT Colin Cole, Martin Placed On I.R.

The Green Bay Packers Tuesday promoted defensive tackle Colin Cole from the practice squad to the active roster, and placed tight end David Martin on injured reserve, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.

Cole, Aaron Kampman's college teammate on the Iowa defensive line, is a 6-2, 320-pound tackle who signed to the Packers practice squad, Sept. 16. Officially a first-year player, he spent the last two training camps in the NFC North, with Minnesota in 2003 and Detroit in 2004. The Vikings signed him as a non-drafted free agent on May 2, 2003, and kept him on their 53-man roster for separate, one-week stints last season. Detroit signed him Dec. 23. All told in 2003, he was inactive for three NFL contests.

The Lions waived Cole in their final preseason roster reduction, Sept. 5.

Cole is the sixth player this season Green Bay has promoted from its practice squad to the 53-man roster. The Packers also brought up tight end Ben Steele (Sept. 7), center/guard Scot..

Leach, whose first name is pronounced "von-TAY," makes his first appearance on a 53-man roster. A 6-0, 246-pound rookie out of East Carolina, Leach originally signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent, April 30.
Governor Proclaims Monday 'Brett Favre' Day In Wisconsin

Packers' Quarterback Starts In His 200th Consecutive NFL Regular Season Game, A League Record For Quarterbacks

Governor Jim Doyle proclaims Monday as "Brett Favre" Day in Wisconsin in honor of the quarterback's 200th consecutive start in a NFL game on Monday against the Saint Louis Rams at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. This is a league record for NFL quarterbacks.

"On Monday, Brett Favre will mark yet another milestone in a remarkable career with the Green Bay Packers," Governor Doyle said. "Breaking this record is a testament to the determination and perseverance that Brett Favre shows on and off the field. Wisconsin is proud of all of the contributions he has made to the game of football, and to our state."

Brett Favre is the NFL's only three-time MVP, and is in his 13th season at Green Bay, which is more than any other player or coach. Among his many career accomplishments are throwing for at least one touchdown pass in 35 consecutive games - a fran..

With chilly weather expected for Monday night's Packers-Rams contest, fans keeping warm while tailgating before the game are reminded that wood burning recreational fires are not allowed at Lambeau Field.

It is the policy of the Green Bay Fire Department, along with the Green Bay Packers and local ordinance, to prohibit recreational fires in the parking lot of Lambeau Field. Citations will be issued and fines levied for violations of the ordinance.
Fans also are cautioned in the use of propane and other fuels used for barbeques and heating equipment. These units never should be left unattended or used within three feet of combustible materials or vehicles.
Rogers Re-Signed, Marshall Placed On I.R.

The Green Bay Packers Saturday re-signed linebacker Nick Rogers and placed linebacker Torrance Marshall on injured reserve, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.

Rogers returns to Green Bay for a second time. Tuesday, the club waived him to make room for running back James Jackson, signed to shore up a suddenly shallow group of running backs. The Packers first re-signed Rogers Oct. 19, three days after they waived him in order to promote Kelvin Kight to an injury-depleted wide receiver corps. Green Bay originally claimed Rogers on waivers from Minnesota, Sept. 6.

Rogers, a 6-2, 251-pound linebacker out of Georgia Tech, has played mostly on special teams in six games this year. He was inactive for the other three contests, and did not appear on the roster Oct. 17 at Detroit.
Marshall, a 6-2, 255-pound linebacker out of Oklahoma, goes on season-ending injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Tied for second on the club with eight special-teams tackles, he had..

Brett Favre National Conference Call Transcript

Q. When you reach these milestones like your 200th regular season start in a row, do you pay attention to that stuff? Are you aware of how many in a row you've played each week?

BRETT FAVRE: Honestly I don't think I would have any choice. Doing interviews, people just in passing mentioning it. If that were not the case, if I were not in a position to do interviews, I probably would be close, if I had to guess how many starts it would be.

But I really don't pay a whole lot of attention to it. I know it's been a long time. It's been a lot of games. I know that now because, like with age, the years start running together. You go, 'Is that when I was 24?' That's kind of how I am with games.

With each game that passes, you start thinking of, "Yeah, that happened in such and such a game. That was in '97. No, wait a minute, that was '93." So that's kind of how I gauge myself or gauge my career.
Iron-Man Favre To Make 200th Consecutive Start As Packers-Rams Clash On Monday Night Football

It's sure to be another milestone Monday night this week at a venue that has seen more than its share of milestone moments - historic Lambeau Field - when the Green Bay Packers play host to the St. Louis Rams.

Packers quarterback BRETT FAVRE will make his 200th consecutive start, the most in NFL history by a quarterback. Perhaps it is fitting that a testament to the longevity and brilliance of Favre takes place on the longest continuously running prime-time entertainment series in television history - ABC's NFL Monday Night Football.

Favre's streak began on September 27, 1992 when he completed 14 of 19 attempts for 210 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions for a 144.6 passer rating in a 17-3 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. It has continued ever since, as Favre has led the Packers to nine playoff appearances, five division championships, two NFC titles and a win in Super Bowl XXXI.

"For Brett to be making his 200th consecutive start is simply in..

Kicker Ryan Longwell of the Green Bay Packers, running back NICK GOINGS of the Carolina Panthers and safety MICHAEL BOULWARE of the Seattle Seahawks and are the NFC Special Teams, Offensive, and Defensive Players of the Week for games played the 11th week of the 2004 season (November 21-22), the NFL announced Wednesday.

SPECIAL TEAMS: K RYAN LONGWELL, GREEN BAY PACKERS
Longwell succeeded with the game on the line for Green Bay, as the Packers rebounded from a 13-3 fourth-quarter deficit en route to a 16-13 road-win over the Houston Texans. Longwell, who connected on three of four field goal attempts, capped the comeback with his game-winning 46-yarder as time expired, helping the Packers remain in a first-place tie with the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North at 6-4. In addition to his game-winner, Longwell was good from 23 and 39 yards, with his lone miscue coming from 49 yards. He has also connected on 135 consecutive extra points, tying him with CHRIS JACKE ..

In a move to add depth to their injured running back corps, the Green Bay Packers late Tuesday signed former Cleveland Brown James Jackson, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.

Linebacker Nick Rogers was waived to make room for Jackson on the roster.

Jackson, a fourth-year player out of the University of Miami, had played in four contests for the Browns this year and rushed 12 times for 81 yards and made six receptions for 22 yards. He was waived Nov. 16. Over his career, Jackson has appeared in 43 games, with 16 starts, and rushed for 1,071 yards and five touchdowns on 321 carries and registered 30 receptions for 201 yards.

The 5-10, 215-pound Jackson was selected by Cleveland in the third round (65th overall) in the 2001 NFL Draft. He finished his career in Miami ranking third on the school's all-time rushing list with 2,953 yards and 29 touchdowns on 541 carries.
-Will play in a 201st consecutive game (220 including playoffs) and make his 199th consecutive start (218 including playoffs), 83 more than the next-closest streak on the all-time quarterbacks list, 116 by Ron Jaworski (1977-84).

-Needs two TD passes to reach 20 on the season and surpass Dan Marino's NFL record for most consecutive seasons with at least 20. Marino did it 10 straight years, from 1983-92. Favre's also done it 10 straight years (1994-2003).

-Can extend his streak of games with a TD pass to 35, the NFL's second-..

Book Signing Postponed: Time TBA

While her son's team prepares to defend their lead atop the NFC North standings this Sunday in Houston, BONITA FAVRE is defending her publishing position in the books game despite a nasty bacterial infection that has landed her in a Madison, Wisconsin emergency room.

After a slew of record breaking personal appearances and signings (not to mention a spot at 16 on the New York Times Best seller list), Mrs. Favre came down with the illness, possibly from contact with harmful food bacteria.

Mrs. Favre is resting comfortably and preparing for her return to book signing action for the holiday season rush. "It's like getting ready for the playoffs," said Mrs. Favre.

Brett Favre jokingly expressed concern about his mother. "My mom's a little hard-headed and I told her, 'You're not a spring chicken any more.' She said, 'You sound like I sounded some years back, talking to you.' I said, 'Well, if that's the case, th..

Packers Activate CB Chris Johnson

The Green Bay Packers Wednesday activated cornerback Chris Johnson from reserve/physically unable to perform, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.

Johnson, a 5-11, 197-pound cornerback out of Louisville, came to Green Bay as the team's first of four seventh-round choices in the 2003 NFL Draft. He enjoyed a strong training camp in 2003 but surgery on his right kneecap, compounded by an offseason stress fracture in the same leg, wiped out his rookie year and virtually all of this past offseason.

The Packers kept him on PUP all of 2004 training camp, then moved him to reserve/PUP Aug. 30. Johnson passed his physical and returned to practice Oct. 20.

Timed by most NFL scouts as the fastest player drafted in 2003, Johnson lettered two seasons at Louisville.

The Packers' active roster had stood at 52 players prior to Johnson's activation, after the team waived safety Curtis Fuller Nov. 2.

CBS, FOX Deals Extended through 2011
The National Football League has agreed to six-year extensions of its Sunday afternoon television packages with CBS and FOX that will keep NFL games on free, over-the-air television, Commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced Monday.

The new CBS and FOX agreements run through the 2011 season. The NFL's current television agreements expire following the 2005 season.

Kicker RYAN LONGWELL of the Green Bay Packers, quarterback DAUNTE CULPEPPER of the Minnesota Vikings and cornerback LITO SHEPPARD of the Philadelphia Eagles, and are the NFC Special Teams, Offensive and Defensive Players of the Month for October, the NFL announced Thursday.

SPECIAL TEAMS: K RYAN LONGWELL, GREEN BAY PACKERS
Longwell helped the Packers to a 3-2 record in October, as the team rebounded from a 1-4 start with three consecutive victories. He connected on seven of seven field goals in the month, including two of two from 50 yards and beyond, and 16 of 16 extra points for 37 total points. The Packers ended a four-game losing streak on October 17 with a 38-10 road-win against Detroit.
Packers Waive DB Curtis Fuller

The Green Bay Packers Tuesday waived Curtis Fuller, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.

Fuller, a 5-10, 188-pound defensive back out of Texas Christian, was signed last week (Oct. 27) to provide depth in the Packers' secondary and saw action in Sunday's contest at Washington.

A fourth-year NFL veteran, Fuller played in nine games with five tackles (all solo) and one pass defensed as a reserve last season, after the team claimed him on waivers from Seattle, Sept. 1, 2003. The Packers re-signed him as a restricted free agent, Feb. 25, then terminated him in the final preseason roster reduction, Sept. 5. He had been out of football until re-joining the Packers last week.

Fuller originally entered the NFL as the Seahawks' fourth-round selection in the 2001 draft.

Denmark's Rick Diny Named Packers H.S. Coach Of The Week

Rick Diny, head coach of the Denmark Vikings, has been selected as the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week for the week ending Oct. 27, the Packers announced Tuesday.

The Vikings blanked Winnebago Lutheran, 42-0, in the first round of the WIAA Division 4 playoffs. Diny's squad finished the regular season 6-3 (4-3 Packerland Conference). The Vikings compiled a record of 2-7 in 2003. Diny's selection of Coach of the Week keeps alive the tradition of one Brown County school receiving the award since the award went statewide in 1999.

"It's an honor to win this award," said Diny. "We have been playing really well as a team defensively. We've been shutting teams down, only giving up 110 yards rushing and 10 points a game. Offensively we've been averaging 280 yards a game. It's been a real joy to coach the kids."

Diny has six assistant coaches, Richard Jonely, Kory Pontbriand, Brett Boardewilk, Dale Whipp, Gerald Rosek and Max Roth, on staff for his pr..
