The Green Bay Packers Thursday signed linebacker Nick McNeil to their practice squad, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.
McNeil, a 6-2, 245-pound Western Carolina product, becomes the eighth member of the Green Bay practice squad.
After signing as a non-drafted free agent with the Steelers April 30, McNeil spent four months and 2004 training camp in Pittsburgh before the Steelers waived him Aug. 30.
McNeil, 23, lettered four years for Western Carolina where he was a three-time All-Southern Conference selection and finished among the Cats' career top five in both sacks and tackles for loss. He also ranks sixth on the school's all-time sack list.. A rookie from Leland, N.C., he finished third in team tackles and ranked third in the SoCon in both sacks and tackles for loss in his final season.
The Packers have assigned McNeil jersey No. 54.
