The Green Bay Packers Wednesday signed linebacker Ike Emodi to their practice squad, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.

Emodi, pronounced uh-MODE-ee, takes the place of Kelvin Kight. Green Bay on Tuesday placed Kight on the practice squad/injured list with a quadriceps strain.

A 6-3, 234-pound rookie out of East Carolina, Emodi entered the 2004 NFL Supplemental Draft but was not selected. The Packers gave him his only NFL tryout, in July, and he signed his first professional contract today.

The versatile, athletic defender played three positions in college: strong-side linebacker, end and safety. In his final collegiate season, 2003, the junior recorded 38 stops, four sacks and one fumble recovery.

The club has assigned Emodi No. 47.
