The Green Bay Packers Thursday promoted wide receiver Andrae Thurman from the practice squad to the active roster, and placed defensive lineman James Lee on injured reserve, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.

Thurman, a 5-11, 192-pound rookie out of Southern Oregon, initially joined the Packers' practice squad Sept. 8. Undrafted this spring, Thurman originally signed with the New York Giants May 7 and later was waived June 22. He then was claimed by Houston July 1 and spent training camp with the Texans until being waived Aug. 31.

He will wear jersey No. 81.

Lee, the Packers' first of two fifth-round picks in 2003, spent much of this season as the No. 2 nose tackle after missing the '03 campaign with back/leg injuries. He made one start, Sept. 19 vs. Chicago, in place of the injured Grady Jackson. The former Oregon State player suffered a lateral cartilage tear in his left knee in the Bears contest; he subsequently underwent arthroscopic surgery Sept. 21 and was inactive for Weeks 3-6. He played the ensuing seven contests before the surgically repaired knee ultimately wore down, causing him to be inactive last Sunday vs. Jacksonville.

He played in nine games overall, totaling 10 tackles (eight solo), including one sack.
