The Tennessee Titans filled one of their two coaching openings on Friday by naming Ray Sherman as the new wide receiver coach.

Sherman joins the Titans after spending the last five seasons as the wide receivers coach for the Green Bay Packers. Entering his 32nd season as a coach, Sherman brings 17 years of NFL experience with him, including three seasons as an offensive coordinator. This also will mark his second stint with the franchise, after coaching on Jerry Glanville's Houston Oilers staff in 1988 and '89.

"I have known Ray for over a decade, as we coached together in San Francisco," said Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, who worked with Sherman with the 49ers from 1992-93. "He is one of the better coaches I have been around and he will make us a better football team. Ray has a great deal of experience in this league and I'm very excited about the future we'll have together.

"At the same time, we're disappointed that we lost a good coach, but we see change as an opportunity to get better. Time will tell, but we're very excited about Ray joining our staff."

While in Green Bay, Sherman amassed an impressive list of accomplishments as he developed a young group of receivers in Javon Walker, Donald Driver and Robert Ferguson. Under his tutelage, both Walker and Driver earned Pro Bowl invitations (Walker, 2004; Driver, 2002). This past season, Walker and Driver ranked second in the league for yards by a wide receiver combination with 2,590; and in 2002, the Packers led the NFL with 29 touchdown receptions.

In his stops around the league he has worked with a notable list of wide receivers, including Jerry Rice, John Taylor, Randy Moss, Cris Carter, Antonio Freeman, Javon Walker and Hines Ward.
Sherman replaces Steve Walters, who left to join the offensive staff for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
