'Cruise For Cancer' Presents Checks To Six Local Groups; Ride Set For June 11

The Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer, a motorcycle ride to benefit cancer patients and families throughout Northeastern Wisconsin, presented checks to six local cancer support organizations today at the Lambeau Field Atrium.

The funds distributed were raised in last year's inaugural Cruise for Cancer.

Jerry Parins, the Packers director of corporate security and organizer of the event, distributed money to the following organizations: St. Vincent Hospital/Compassionate Care Fund, Unity Hospice, Families of Children with Cancer, American Cancer Society, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, St. Mary's Hospital-A Woman's Place.

Earlier this year, two other groups, Ribbon of Hope and the Breast Cancer Family Foundation, received money as well.

All told, Cruise for Cancer distributed $27,500 in proceeds from last year's event.

Parins also previewed the second annual Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer, to be held on Saturday, June 11.

Packers To Retire Reggie White's Number Sept. 18

Perennial All-Pro Reggie White, one of the greatest defenders in NFL history, will have his number '92' retired by the Green Bay Packers Sept. 18. President & CEO Bob Harlan made the announcement Tuesday.

The Packers will honor White, who tragically passed away Dec. 26 in North Carolina, at halftime ceremonies during the first regular-season game at Lambeau Field, a 3:15 p.m. kickoff with the Cleveland Browns. His wife, Sara, and children, Jeremy and Jecolia, are expected to join Harlan to retire White's familiar '92.' Earlier, Jecolia, 17, is scheduled to sing the National Anthem.

The gesture was not spurred by White's premature death. In fact, Harlan last September met with White and told him of the team's plans to retire his number during the '05 season, mentioning the public display of retired numbers on the green facade of Lambeau Field's north end zone, where the club will unveil White's number at halftime of the Browns contest.

Packers Announce 2005 Training Camp Dates

The Green Bay Packers Thursday announced practice dates and times for 2005 training camp, one of the most distinctive fan experiences in the National Football League.

BOARD APPROVES NOMINATION OF SIX CANDIDATES FOR JULY SHAREHOLDER VOTE

John Bergstrom, chairman and CEO of Bergstrom Corporation of Neenah, Wis., and Carl Kuehne, owner and CEO of American Food Groups, Green Bay, have been elected to the Executive Committee of the Green Bay Packers, club president Bob Harlan announced Wednesday afternoon following the team's quarterly meeting of its board of directors, conducted on the fourth floor of the Lambeau Field Atrium.

Bergstrom and Kuehne replace Dr. Don Harden and John Underwood, members of the Executive Committee since 1985 and 1990, respectively, who have reached age 70, the mandatory retirement age under the Packers' bylaws.

In a related proceeding, Larry Weyers, new to the Executive Committee last year, was elected to replace Underwood as treasurer.

'Family Night' Tickets Sold Out

Tickets for "Packers Family Night, presented by Fox 11" are to go on sale Saturday, June 4, at 10 a.m.

Tickets for the Aug. 5 event, highlighted by a scrimmage with the Buffalo Bills, are priced at $8 and may be purchased either in person, over the phone or via the Internet.

In-person sales will be conducted at a number of locations, including the Packers ticket office at Lambeau Field, the Resch Center box office and all TicketStar outlets. Area TicketStar outlets include Cub Foods in Appleton, Curry's Foods in Marinette and Dr. Freud's in Manitowoc.

Packers Sign Draft Choice Coston

The Green Bay Packers Monday signed guard/center Junius Coston, the club's first of two selections in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the signing.

Coston, a 6-foot-3, 317-pound lineman out of North Carolina A&T, is only the second 2005 draft choice to sign a contract. The St. Louis Rams on April 29 signed defensive back Jerome Carter, a fourth-round choice from Florida State.

A versatile athlete, Coston played center and guard in college, where he earned first-team All-Mid Eastern Athletic Conference honors. The durable Coston started his final 41 college games for an A&T rushing game that averaged 4.5 yards per carry over that span. He is the first of 1,242 Packers draft choices from that school.

The first cousin of new teammate David Martin, Coston is also the first of 11 Packers draft picks under contract. His last name is pronounced COST-un.

Packers Foundation Awards $119,000 In Grants To County, State Groups

The Green Bay Packers Foundation has awarded $119,000 to 55 civic and charitable groups throughout the state of Wisconsin in its annual distribution of funds, Gary Rotherham, chairman of the Foundation committee, announced Monday.

With these disbursements, the Foundation has distributed $1,346,726 for charitable purposes since it was established in 1986 by Judge Robert J. Parins, then president of the Packers Corporation, "as a vehicle to assure continued contributions to charity."

The financial breakdown of the Foundation's contributions discloses that 35 grants - aggregating $94,000 - were awarded to Brown County organizations, among them the Libertas Treatment Center, St. Mary's Hospital, Wellspring and Youth Educated in Safety.

MOTORCYCLE RIDE TO BENEFIT CANCER PATIENTS AND FAMILIES IN NORTHEASTERN WISCONSIN

The second annual Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer, a motorcycle ride to benefit cancer patients and families throughout Northeastern Wisconsin, will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2005, it was announced Friday.

Pre-registration is currently available through www.cruiseforcancer.org or at Vandervest Harley-Davidson in Peshtigo and Vandervest Custom Cycles in Green Bay. A $10 rider donation is required to ride in the event. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at Lambeau Field on the day of the ride. Starbuck's Coffee and Krispy Kreme donuts will be available for the riders. The Green Bay Packers Wednesday announced plans to host the Buffalo Bills during training camp, capping off the visit with 'Family Night, Presented by FOX 11.'

For the first time, 'Family Night' will feature another NFL team. This year's event, with the Bills on the other sideline, is Friday night, Aug. 5. The NFL's most popular scrimmage, an intra-squad affair over its first four editions, the night has routinely filled Lambeau Field. In 2004, the Packers sold every available seat in the stadium bowl.

This year's edition will take place on a Friday night to accommodate the Packers' earlier-than-normal preseason opener, vs. San Diego, Thursday, Aug. 11, as established by the NFL.

Bonita Favre, mother of Packers quarterback Brett Favre, on June 3 will make a return visit to the Packers Pro Shop to sign copies of the book, "FAVRE," an autobiography of the future Hall of Fame field leader co-authored by Brett, Bonita and Green Bay Press-Gazette columnist Chris Havel.

The 12th-annual Packers Pro Shop Tent Sale is slated for June 10 and 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The popular and fun event, which often sees shoppers lining up well before the doors open, will take place in the Lambeau Field Atrium. Last year, more than 5,000 fans made their way through the Atrium over the course of the two-day sale.

On Friday, June 3, the Edgar Bennett Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon will see many Packers trade in their cleats for fashionable bowling shoes as they take to Green Bay's Riviera Lanes to bowl for fun and raise money for The Angel Fund for Children with Cancer, Inc.
