Packers Sign Sixth-Round Draft Choice Michael Montgomery

Signing their second draft choice in as many days, the Green Bay Packers Tuesday inked defensive end Michael Montgomery. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, made the announcement.

Green Bay now has three of its 11 selections under contract, including guard/center Junius Coston (May 16) and guard William Whitticker (Monday). Only two other teams, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, are believed to have signed three draft picks.

Montgomery, a 6-foot-5, 275-pound player out of Texas A&M, earned first-team All-Big 12 honors as a senior in 2004, when he posted 78 tackles, six sacks, one interception and 12 tackles for loss. He joined Terrence Murphy, whom Green Bay had drafted four rounds earlier, as one of two Aggies captains last season, and earned his team's defensive MVP in leading A&M to the Cotton Bowl.

The Packers chose Montgomery with their first of two selections in the sixth round (180th overall), a cho..

Packers Sign Draft Choice William Whitticker

The Green Bay Packers Monday signed guard William Whitticker, the club's second of two selections in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the signing.

Whitticker, a 6-foot-5, 338-pound lineman out of Michigan State, is the second Packers draft choice to sign a contract. The club signed guard/center Junius Coston (fifth round) May 16.

A four-year letterman (2001-2004), he was a three-year starter for the Spartans (2001-02, '04). A right guard at Michigan State, he will look to immediately win a spot as a backup and provide depth to the Packers' interior offensive line, an area that saw the free agency departure of two starters (Marco Rivera and Mike Wahle).

All told, Whitticker saw action in 48 career games, starting 31 contests at right guard. He registered 222 pancake blocks as a Spartan.
Packers rookies are scheduled to report for training c..

The Green Bay Packers Friday signed non-drafted free agent Steve Fleming. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the addition to the roster.

A 6-foot-6, 262-pound tight end out of Arizona, Fleming spent one week earlier this spring with the New York Giants.

Fleming as a senior last fall at Arizona caught 23 passes, second on the squad, for 332 yards, a 14.4 per-catch average, with two touchdowns. A four-year letterman and two-year starter, he posted 50 career receptions for 584 yards and four touchdowns.

A quarterback and team captain in high school, Fleming led Chaparral High School (Scottsdale, Ariz.) to a state championship. Darrell Bevell, now Green Bay quarterbacks coach, also is a former Chaparral signal caller.

The Green Bay Packers have waived wide receiver/kick returner Kelvin Kight, linebacker Shawn Morgan and defensive tackle Doug Sims. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the moves Tuesday.

Also Tuesday, the team announced it has placed eight players on the exempt/NFLEL injured list: cornerback Chris Day, linebacker John Garrett, wide receiver Jamal Jones, safety Chonn Lacey, guard Joe Quinn, cornerback/safety Art Smith, defensive end Seante Williams and safety Wendell Williams. All eight currently count as roster exemptions.

Kight originally joined the club on waivers from St. Louis in 2004 training camp. Promoted from the practice squad, he spent four regular-season weeks on the active roster, playing at Detroit (Oct. 17) in his NFL debut. Allocated to Frankfurt, Kight spent most of the NFL Europe season on the Galaxy's injured reserve.
Packers Pro Shop Tent Sale Begins Friday

The 12th-annual Packers Pro Shop Tent Sale begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. in the Lambeau Field Atrium. The sale is scheduled for two days, June 10 and 11, and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The popular and fun event, which often sees shoppers lining up well before the doors open, last year witnessed more than 5,000 fans make their way through the Atrium over the course of the two-day sale.

From humble beginnings in 1994 in the parking lot outside the former Pro Shop on the north end of Lambeau Field, the event has grown every year in terms of shoppers served, and amount and variety of items sold. Marking its second year in the Atrium, the tent sale also was held in the west side stadium concourse in previous years.

Highlighting a mix of Pro Shop items sharply reduced in price and other special purchases, the sale also features items donated by the equipment staff that are no longer needed by the football team, including hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts an..

The Green Bay Packers Monday reminded Brown County residents who received invoices enabling them to purchase tickets for a 2005 game that payment is due Tuesday, June 7, at the Packers ticket office.

Invoices can be dropped off at the Packers' ticket office at Lambeau Field from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The invoices due tomorrow were sent to county residents whose names were chosen in a second drawing last month.

Those selected were sent an invoice for four tickets to a yet-to-be-determined game for the 2005 season. Remitting payment by tomorrow secures tickets.

The upcoming season will mark the third year that 4,000 seats per game are available to Brown County residents via a computer-generated random selection process. In 2004, 40,000 fans attended games at Lambeau Field in the second season of the program.
