Packers Acquire LB Corey Jenkins

The Green Bay Packers Tuesday claimed linebacker Corey Jenkins on waivers from the Miami Dolphins and waived linebacker Zac Woodfin. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the transactions.

Jenkins, a 6-foot, 232-pound veteran out of South Carolina, was waived Tuesday by the Dolphins. Originally drafted by Miami in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL Draft, Jenkins had two stints with the Dolphins. After playing in all 16 games as a rookie in '03, the team waived him last September and the Bears claimed him the next day. Then, waived by Chicago, Jenkins re-joined the Dolphins on waivers in December.

In 23 NFL games, 19 with Miami and four with Chicago, Jenkins has two career tackles (one solo) both with the Dolphins in 2003, and nine special teams stops.

Jenkins, 29, was a first-round draft choice of the Boston Red Sox in 1995 and spent four seasons in the Boston and Chicago White Sox farm systems ..

NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship Attracts 79 Participants

A total of 79 African-American coaches took part in this summer's NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship Program that included participation by all 32 NFL teams.

Three of the NFL's six African-American head coaches and 31 assistant coaches are graduates of the program.

Head coaches Herman Edwards of the New York Jets (fellowship in 1989 with Kansas City), Marvin Lewsi of Cincinnati (San Francisco, 1988; Kansas City, 1991), and Lovie Smith (Arizona, 1988) interned in the program.

Smith says the fellowship is effective in many ways.

"The NFL's Minority Coaching program is very valuable," he says. "Many of the NFL's black head coaches have had the opportunity to participate in the fellowship and now help facilitate it. The program is successful because it is beneficial not just to the participating coaches, but also the teams.

"As a participant in the program, it gives you an opportunity to further your football knowledge and see the game at..

Packers Hall Of Fame Displays Telegrams To Lombardi & Team

The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame this summer again is proving to be a popular place for fans to visit and new displays in the Hall are drawing rave reviews.

The new displays, two kiosks and a mural both located just inside the entrance to the hall, feature Northwestern Union telegrams from the Vince Lombardi era. The kiosks contain the actual telegrams that were sent to Lombardi and the Packers offering congratulations for victories in various championship games of the '60s.

The mural displays large reproductions of some of the more notable telegrams, including a message from President John F. Kennedy. The mural also features a picture of Lombardi and golf legend Jack Nicklaus taken while the two enjoyed a round at Green Bay's Oneida Golf and Country Club.

"The new displays have been an excellent addition to the Hall," said Tom Murphy, the Hall of Fame's archivist. "Lombardi literally had hundreds of telegrams that he kept in his files. The family donate..

The Green Bay Packers Wednesday re-signed Pro Bowl tight end Bubba Franks to a multi-year contract. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the signing.

"We are very pleased to reach an agreement with Bubba Franks, and to know that he will be with the Packers for years to come," Thompson said. "He has been a great player for our team the past five years, and we look forward to an exciting future for Bubba and the Green Bay Packers.
Fans Reminded About Pat-Downs This Season At Lambeau Field

The Green Bay Packers and Green Bay Police Department today reminded fans to expect hand searches upon entering Lambeau Field for the balance of the 2005 season.

The measures are to further enhance fan safety and comfort. Fans are encouraged to arrive early at stadium gates to help facilitate this additional security measure. All fans entering Lambeau Field will be subject to and should expect to be patted down by security personnel before going through stadium gates.

"Pat downs" of fans entering NFL stadiums have taken place on a frequent basis in recent years, including Lambeau Field. Following discussion at a recent league meeting, Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and the NFL clubs determined that these hand searches should be a required element of stadium security procedures at all NFL games.

"This new requirement is not a result of any specific threat information," said Commissioner Tagliabue. "It is in recognition of the significant additional security th..

Packers Announce Extension For Head Coach Mike Sherman

The Green Bay Packers have signed Executive Vice President and Head Coach Mike Sherman to a two-year contract extension, through the 2007 season. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, made the announcement Tuesday.

"I'm delighted that Mike Sherman will be staying on as our head coach for an extended period," Thompson said. "Both he and I share common ground in that we have great passion for the Green Bay Packers.

"After I re-joined the Packers this past January, I believed it was important to take some time to make sure that things were going well with the new organizational structure before any long-term decisions were made relative to the head coaching position. From my perspective there was no timetable, but that didn't necessarily mean that something wouldn't get done.

"After taking this time, I am comfortable with the manner in which things are operating. Mike Sherman's record as a head coach spea..
