The American Heart Association's Northeast Wisconsin Heart Walk is scheduled for Saturday, October 1 at Lambeau Field. Registration and activities will begin in the Lambeau Field Atrium at 8:00 a.m. with the walk heading throughout the local neighborhood beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interested participants can register by calling 920-662-2268 x6696 or by e-mail to annie.bongiorno@heart.org.

The Heart Walk is a fun one- or three-mile walk featuring entertainment, health fair activities and more. The Heart Walk helps raise money for research, public and professional education, and community programs that help fight heart disease and stroke.

"This year's Heart Walk will be more inspiring and invigorating than ever. I encourage individuals, businesses, churches, clubs and other organizations to put together a team to walk in honor or in memory of someone who has been touched by cardiovascular disease," said Heart Walk Chairperson Dee Geurts-Bengtson.

The Heart Walk's major sponsors are Green Bay Heart Care, Bellin Health Heart & Vascular Center, and Prevea Clinic. Fox 11-WLUK, Y100-WNCY, and Women Magazine are media sponsors.

Since 1924 the American Heart Association has helped protect people of all ages and ethnicities from the ravages of heart disease and stroke.

These diseases, the nation's No. 1 and No. 3 killers, and other cardiovascular diseases claim nearly a million American lives a year. The association invested more than $439 million in fiscal year 2003-04 for research, professional and public education, and advocacy so people across America learn what they can do to reduce their risk and live stronger, longer lives.
