Shoreland Lutheran's Stein Named Packers High School C.O.W.

Mark Stein, coach of Shoreland Lutheran High School has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the Packers announced Wednesday.

The sixth-year head coach has brought the Pacers, located in Kenosha County, to their first WIAA playoff appearance. It is only the sixth year for the varsity football program at Shoreland Lutheran.

"It's a privilege and an honor to have the NFL and the Green Bay Packers do something like this for our small high school and for our kids," Stein said. "I really appreciate it."

Stein was coached by Jack Gronholz at Martin Luther College in Minnesota and by Roger Shurltz and Norv Kock at Nebraska Lutheran High School in Waco, Neb. He served as assistant coach at Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, Wis. from 1995-1999.

The Green Bay Packers have signed running back Bobby Purify to the practice squad. To make room on the eight-man developmental unit, the team has released running back Antoineo Harris. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the moves Wednesday.

Purify, a 6-foot, 210-pound rookie out of Colorado, spent the summer and preseason with the San Francisco 49ers, who waived him in their final roster reduction earlier this month. The 49ers' second-leading rusher in preseason action, he averaged 4.0 yards on 20 carries (79 yards), and added five receptions for 24 yards.

A non-drafted free agent, Purify signed with San Francisco after rushing for 3,016 yards, third in school history, at Colorado.

The Green Bay Packers today announced the organization's donation to the American Red Cross' Katrina Relief Fund has reached approximately $206,500.

The updated total is attributed to additional donations that were received this week on the heels of collection efforts last weekend, designated by the NFL as "Hurricane Relief Weekend." The total includes $100,000 the Packers organization donated to kick off the effort, plus more than $106,000 in additional collections.

The American Heart Association's Northeast Wisconsin Heart Walk is scheduled for Saturday, October 1 at Lambeau Field. Glenwood City High School coach Phil Ottney has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the Packers announced Thursday.

In his 25th year at Glenwood City and 19th as head coach, Ottney served as President of the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association for the past two years and is beginning his two-year term as past president under current coach Dan Brunner.

Ottney is a University of Wisconsin-La Crosse graduate, having played football there under newly-inducted College Hall of Fame coach Roger Harring. He played under coach John Hansen as a prep at Osseo (Minn.) High School. He is currently the physical education teacher at Glenwood City.

The Green Bay Packers Wednesday re-signed tight end Ben Steele and placed wide receiver Javon Walker on injured reserve. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the moves.

Steele, 6-5, 260, was waived on Sept. 6 after re-signing as an exclusive rights free agent on April 4. He served as a backup tight end in 2004 after being promoted from the practice squad early in the season. In 15 games, he contributed four receptions for 42 yards and 17 special teams tackles.

Relief Efforts Total More Than $162,000 For Red Cross

The Green Bay Packers today announced that a grand total of $162,535.21 will be donated to the American Red Cross' Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. The total includes $100,000 the Packers organization donated, plus more than $62,000 from the weekend's collection efforts.

"We're pleased so many of our fans contributed toward the relief efforts for those devastated by Hurricane Katrina," said Packers Executive Vice President and COO John Jones. The Green Bay Packers Wednesday signed running back Antoineo Harris to the practice squad. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the addition.

Harris, a 5-foot-10, 220-pound player out of Illinois, originally signed as a non-drafted free agent with the San Diego Chargers before the 2003 season. After spending the '03 campaign on the Chargers' injured reserve, Harris was out of football in 2004, then went to '05 training camp with the Chicago Bears. Packers & Red Cross To Team Up Sunday For Hurricane Relief

AUTOGRAPH SESSION AND BLOOD DRIVE TO TAKE PLACE AT BAY PARK SQUARE

The Green Bay Packers and the American Red Cross are teaming up to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina with an autograph session and blood drive at Bay Park Square Mall Sunday.

The autograph session will take place from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at center court and the blood drive will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the ShopKo wing of the mall.

More than a dozen players, including Bubba Franks, Aaron Kampman, Robert Ferguson, Najeh Davenport and Aaron Rodgers, are expected to take part.

The players will be seated at tables, with three players at each location. Donations to each table are encouraged in exchange for autographs of the players seated at the respective tables.

Packers Hall Of Fame Receives Rare Don Hutson Jersey

The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame today graciously accepted a donation of major importance, a home-game jersey that belonged to NFL Hall of Famer Don Hutson, one of the game's all-time greatest players.

The jersey worn by the awesome wide receiver was donated by Daniel Flagstad, 68, of Howards Grove, Wis., in honor of his parents, Melvin and Helen Flagstad, former operators of The Rockwood Lodge, the Packers' summer training camp home from 1946-49.

The navy blue No. 14 was last worn by Hutson during his final season, the Packers' 1945 campaign. As was the practice at the time, the jersey went into storage with the rest of the equipment after the season and made its way out to Rockwood Lodge for the 1946 training camp.
