Packers Promote Lucas, Release Wallace, Re-Sign Butler
posted 11/09/2005
The Green Bay Packers Wednesday promoted Chad Lucas from the practice squad, waived Taco Wallace and re-signed Vince Butler to take Lucas' place. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the transactions.
Lucas, a 6-foot-1, 201-pound wide receiver from Alabama State, originally joined the club near the end of its organized team activity sessions in June. He spent training camp with the Packers, catching two preseason passes for 22 yards, then re-signed to the practice squad Sept. 5. Originally signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Titans in 2004, he also had a stint in the Arena Football League. He will remain No. 10 on the numerical roster.
Butler, a 6-foot, 195-pound wide receiver out of Northwestern Oklahoma State, also spent 2005 training camp with the Packers, but did not catch a pass in preseason action. He had been out of football since the team waived him in its final roster reduction. He will wear No. 19.
Wallace, also a wide receiver, had signed Oct. 25 as a free agent. He saw brief duty at Cincinnati Oct. 30 but did not play Sunday vs. Pittsburgh. |
