posted 11/23/2005

The Green Bay Packers Wednesday placed Jason Horton on injured reserve and promoted Jerron Wishom from the practice squad to the active roster. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, made the announcement.

In addition, the team re-signed fullback Greg Hanoian to take Wishom's place on the practice squad.

Horton, a 6-foot, 190-pound cornerback out of North Carolina A&T, had been bothered by a sprained shoulder since early in training camp. He aggravated the injury at Minnesota Oct. 23 and appeared on the Packers injury report the following week. The second-year player, originally signed by Green Bay as a nondrafted free agent in 2004, played in nine of 10 games this season, posting eight tackles (six solo) and seven more on special teams.

Wishom, a 6-foot, 197-pound cornerback from Louisiana Tech, had signed to the Packers' practice squad Sept. 13. The rookie entered the NFL in May as a nondrafted free agent with the Houston Texans, where he remained until being released in the team's final preseason roster reduction. A physical cornerback, Wishom overcame multiple knee injuries to play in 35 college games, with nine starts, collecting 48 tackles and three interceptions. His first name is pronounced "JARE-in."

Wishom is the sixth player promoted from the Packers' practice squad this season.
