Packers, Green Bay's WFRV And CBS Reach Year-Round Broadcast Partnership Agreement

Craig Benzel, the Packers' Director of Marketing and Corporate Sales, and R. Perry Kidder, Vice President and General Manager of WFRV-TV CBS 5 announced today that the Packers and WFRV-TV, owned and operated by CBS Television Stations, have renewed their agreement for a comprehensive six-year statewide broadcasting partnership. The partnership will continue to bring year-round Packers programming, in addition to pre-season games, to fans throughout Wisconsin and the upper Midwest.
The Packers Partner Network Stations Group consists of the top television broadcast stations in each market and includes:
Green Bay/Fox Cities - WFRV (CBS) Network Originating Station
Wausau/Rhinelander - WAOW (ABC)
Satellite - Eagle River - WYOW (ABC)
Milwaukee - WTMJ (NBC)
Madison - WKOW (ABC)
La Crosse - WXOW (ABC)
Satellite - Eau Claire - WQOW (ABC)
Marquette, MI - WJMN (CBS)
Duluth-Superior, MN* - KQDS (FOX)
*Pre-Season games only.
"WFRV-TV and our statewide broadcasting stations have been ideal partners to work with the past three years and we are delighted to extend our agreement with them," Benzel said. "They offer the Packers superior broadcast capabilities, exceptional teamwork, strong national support and a thorough, all-encompassing network of resources that expands the boundaries of a traditional television partnership."
Kidder stated, "In the partnership with the Packers, we are committed to bringing the fans the highest quality content available. There are numerous football shows out there, but the Mike McCarthy Show, Inside Lambeau, and Larry McCarren's Locker Room are the only Packers endorsed programs with true insider information and the only shows based out of Lambeau Field."

John Jones, Packers Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer stated, "We're excited to continue our partnership with WFRV and the statewide network. They have demonstrated a great understanding of the uniqueness of this franchise and a great ability to tell its story to our fans, be it through our preseason games or our weekly shows through the season. We look forward to a continuing our relationship and building upon the impressive accomplishments of the past three years."
The broadcasting package includes the following current programs:
* Green Bay Packers preseason games will be produced and directed by WFRV-TV CBS 5, Green Bay, in conjunction with CBS Sports, New York, which are both owned and operated by CBS Inc.
* Included with the pre-season package is an informative half-hour pre-game broadcast co-hosted by WFRV-TV's (Green Bay) Sports Director Larry McCarren and WTMJ-TV's (Milwaukee) Sports Anchor, Jessie Garcia. It will be produced and directed by WFRV-TV, Green Bay, with the assistance of CBS Sports, New York.
* WFRV-TV will produce a weekly one-half hour coach's show titled "The Mike McCarthy Show", beginning in training camp and running through the end of the Packers season. It will be produced at Curly's Restaurant in the Lambeau Field Atrium and co-hosted by CBS 5's Larry McCarren and WTMJ's Jessie Garcia.
* WFRV-TV will produce "Inside Lambeau," a weekly one-half hour pre-game program beginning during the Packers preseason and continuing through regular season. It will be produced on Thursday nights during the NFL season and aired on CBS 5 Saturday at 10:35 PM. The Thursday night filming will take place at 7:00 PM at Curly's Pub in the Lambeau Field Atrium and is open to the public. The show is co-hosted by CBS 5's Sports Anchor Burke Griffin and the "radio voice" of the Packers, Wayne Larrivee,. The program will focus on the upcoming game, player match ups, and key rivalries.
* WFRV-TV 5 will continue to produce a one-half hour show titled "Larry McCarren's Locker Room," which will be live on Monday nights at 6:30 from the Lambeau Field Atrium. This live program is open to the public on a first come first served basis. The Green Bay Packers will continue to work in conjunction with Larry McCarren to help provide high profile Packers players as guests for each weekly show.
Note: This program is exclusive to WFRV-TV CBS 5 in Green Bay and not distributed throughout the state.
In addition to weekly programs, this package includes the following annual specials:
* Introduced in 2005, the Green Bay Packers Fan Fest is an event offered to a limited number of fans. CBS 5 will produce a special to "kick off" the Annual Packers Fan Fest. CBS 5 Sports Director Larry McCarren will host this special with involvement from high profile Green Bay Packers administration, coaches, and players.
* WFRV-TV will create, produce and distribute a "Green Bay Packers Training Camp Special" which will be broadcast during the first week of training camp and co-hosted by CBS 5's Larry McCarren and WTMJ's Jessie Garcia.
* WFRV-TV will produce a "Packers Draft Special" during the weekend of the NFL Draft. CBS 5 Sports Director Larry McCarren, the Packers' Executive VP and General Manager, Ted Thompson, and the Packers' Head Coach, Mike McCarthy, will co-host the one-half-hour special on the Sunday night following the NFL Draft.
* WFRV-TV will produce a one-half hour "Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame Induction Special," emceed and hosted by CBS 5's Sports Director Larry McCarren." This program will focus on the current year's inductees, featuring highlights of their career in football.
* A half-hour Holiday special highlighting the Packers' extensive and ongoing community relations efforts will be created and produced by WFRV-TV and the Packers' public relations staff.
Plus, WFRV-TV will produce weekly news and sports segments with exclusive interviews with the Packers coaches, players, and staff to include:
* WFRV-TV will produce a weekly late news insert titled "Inside 1265." WFRV-TV Sports reporter, Ryan Popkey, will host the segment featuring profiles of individuals or events working within the Green Bay Packers organization. The segment is designed to provide exclusive content that goes where no other cameras can go and distribute exclusive video for the fans enjoyment.
* WFRV-TV will produce a weekly sports segment featuring an exclusive "One-On-One" interview with the Packers' Head Coach, Mike McCarthy. This "after the game" exclusive interview will be conducted by Sports Director Larry McCarren. This interview will air during the Sunday night late Newscast in sports on WFRV, WJMN and WTMJ.
* WFRV-TV will produce an exclusive one-on-one interview with a Green Bay Packers player guest to air as a news insert. Players will rotate throughout the Packers' season. This weekly news insert will run on Packers Partner Network Stations.
Various planned historical specials are also included during this six-year agreement and will include, but not limited to the following over the next two years:
* 2006 will mark the 10th anniversary of the Packers Super Bowl XXXI Championship. WFRV-TV will look back at the players, coaches, and front office personnel that got them there and how they delivered the Lombardi Trophy back to where it belongs - Titletown. This program will be produced by CBS 5 in conjunction with the Green Bay Packers organization.
* WFRV-TV will produce a special introducing John Jones as the new Packers President. John Jones is the designated successor to current President and CEO Bob Harlan. He will become President and COO in May 2006 and assume the CEO role in May 2007. Mr. Jones brings a broad spectrum of experience in management at the National Football League's highest levels to his current role as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Green Bay Packers. CBS 5 will produce a special introducing John Jones as the new Packers President.
* WFRV-TV will produce a special highlighting Bob Harlan's history with the Packers. Bob Harlan enjoys his 16th season of successful tenure as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Green Bay Packers. Bob Harlan announced in 2005 that he would step down in 2007 and be replaced by John Jones. Bob Harlan's legacy, to the heartfelt appreciation of so many fans of the Green and Gold, is solidly in place.
Additional historical specials are also planned for the future and will be announced as dates and times for the programming are established.
This agreement also provides support by promoting local tourism to Lambeau Field and Brown County as a year-round destination venue for family, entertainment, dining, and Packers football excitement. This tourism message runs in Chicago and Rockford in Illinois, Minneapolis and Rochester in Minnesota, and Detroit and Marquette in MI.
