Two years after he co-founded the Packers with Curly Lambeau, George Calhoun began writing a piece called The Dope Sheet, which served as the official press release and game program from 1921-24.

Honoring Calhoun, the first publicity director, the Packers are running this weekly feature as their release, which is being made available to fans exclusively on Packers.com.

A complete edition of the Dope Sheet will be available each week during the season in PDF format, located in the Packers.com Game Centers.

Packers Sign RB P.J. Pope

The Green Bay Packers Tuesday signed running back P.J. Pope from the Chicago Bears' practice squad and released center Chris White. Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson made the announcement.

Pope, a 5-foot-9, 218-pound rookie from Bowling Green, had signed with the Bears as a non-drafted free agent this past spring. Chicago's leading 2006 rusher during the preseason, he gained 153 yards on 40 carries (3.8 avg.) with one touchdown. He also had four catches for 43 yards (10.8 avg.) in non-league action.

A four-year letterman at Bowling Green (2002-05), Pope finished his career as the school's only player to rush for more than 3,000 yards and accumulate more than 1,000 receiving yards.

White, a second-year player, dressed but did not play in each of the Packers' first seven games.

Frankly, I'm more disappointed for Mo (Morency) because I think you're seeing him getting very comfortable with our run game. He's been excellent on special teams. He's a good football player. He's a tough guy, very explosive. Unfortunately, this is part of the game. It's an opportunity for Noah (Herron) to step in there, but I feel bad more for Mo because he just had his first 100-yard rushing game, and he just really looks comfortable out there. He's a real spark plug on special teams also.

I think we have some momentum starting. Two in a row - we've played well for two weeks. I really thought we played a whole football game. I was very pleased in the way we played in all three phases. The special teams, our emphasis was to have a big play in the game. We had a couple of opportunities in the return game. It didn't quite come out, but we're doing a better job there. The offense - when you don't punt until the fourth quarter, that's a positive day. I thought the defense really held them intact and played with a lot of passion. I'm very pleased with this victory.

(In terms of the team coming together, is that how it's supposed to look?)
Absolutely. There are a couple of negative things that you have week in and week out, and when they don't affect the outcome of the game, that's a positive because you're able to correct them and learn from them. We had some communication..

Former Packers wide receiver Robert Brooks, a member of the Super Bowl XXXI Championship team, will serve as honorary captain for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

As part of the organization's season-long celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Super Bowl win, General Manager Ted Thompson has invited members of the 1996 team to serve as honorary captains for each of the Packers' home games.

The Green Bay Packers are accepting applications for the Jr. Community Quarterback and the Junior Volunteer Stars community grant programs. Both programs are open to Wisconsin residents.

Green Bay Packers Junior Volunteer Stars is a program designed to promote community investment and volunteerism in children (ages 13 and younger) via small-level grants. These small-level grants must be used to finance a community improvement/volunteer project created and executed by the child or children.

This year, eight projects will be selected and each will be awarded a $300 grant in the name of the non-profit organization, school, or religious organization sponsoring the project.

The deadline for Junior Volunteer Stars grant applications is Nov. 20, 2006.

A.J. Hawk Named NFL Rookie Of The Week

Voters on NFL.com and via Sprint wireless service have made their choice. Linebacker A.J. HAWK of the Green Bay Packers is the NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK for games played on October 22-23 the NFL announced Thursday.

Hawk recorded nine solo tackles, three assisted tackles and one sack in the Packers' 34-24 victory over the Miami Dolphins. He led Green Bay with 12 total tackles and currently ranks second on the team with 43 tackles this season. Hawk's 2.5 sacks are tied for second on the team.

More than 39,100 fans voted this week on NFL.com and via Sprint wireless service. Hawk was selected from among five finalists. Bill Ehnerd and Steve Klister, co-coaches at Wrightstown High School, have been named Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.

Ehnerd and Klister led the Tigers to a 9-0 regular season mark and their third straight Olympian Conference championship. By virtue of their undefeated regular season, Wrightstown earned a top seed in the Division 4 WIAA playoffs. They host Southern Door in the opening round tonight.

The co-coaches and their staff oversee a program of 85 players, including a varsity team of 40. They are assisted by Matt Binsfeld, Eugene Klister, Terry Schaeuble, Cory Haese, Mike Olson and Kyle Meulemans. In nine years of heading the Wrightstown program, the duo has a career record of 77-21.

The Green Bay Packers Monday placed wide receiver Robert Ferguson on injured reserve and claimed wide receiver Shaun Bodiford on waivers from the Detroit Lions. Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson made the announcement.

Bodiford, a 5-foot-11, 186-pound rookie out of Portland State, made his NFL debut at St. Louis Oct. 1. He played in three games, recording one tackle on special teams. During the preseason, Bodiford also returned kickoffs and punts for Detroit.

A first-team All-Big Sky Conference selection as a 2005 senior at Portland State, Bodiford caught at least one pass in all 22 of his Division I games after transferring from junior college.

This is a tremendous team win for us, especially coming off the bye week. We had a chance in the bye week to go through some corrections. It's nice to see when you emphasize key components of successful football come to light. The turnovers by our defense today were huge. I just thought the adversity - the changing of momentum, either maintaining the momentum or getting it back was an emphasis for our football team. The Green Bay Packers Wednesday signed wide receiver Chris Francies from their practice squad. Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson made the announcement.

In addition Wednesday, the club re-signed wide receiver Carlton Brewster to take Francies' place on the practice squad.

Francies, a 6-foot-1, 193-pound rookie out of Texas-El Paso, originally signed with the team as a non-drafted free agent this past May and spent the season's first six weeks on the practice squad. His last name is pronounced "FRAN-sis."

Francies will now wear No. 83 and Brewster has been assigned No. 19.

STATEMENT BY AN NFL SPOKESPERSON:

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Koren Robinson has been suspended without pay for a minimum of one year for violating the NFL Substance Abuse Policy.

Robinson is eligible to be reinstated no sooner than September 18, 2007.

Robinson previously was suspended for four games in 2004 when he was with the Seattle Seahawks for violating the Substance Abuse Policy.

Dan Brunner of Hartford Union High School has been named Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week, the organization announced Friday.

Brunner has led the Orioles to five Little Ten championships and 10 playoff appearances in his 17 seasons as head coach. Currently ranked No. 1 in the Division 1 Associated Press poll, 7-0 Hartford Union takes on West Bend West for the conference title tonight.

The annual search is on for a new Packers FAN Hall of Fame honoree.

The first professional football team to have its own hall of fame, the Green Bay Packers enhanced that distinction in 1998 by establishing a Packers FAN Hall of Fame. It was founded, in conjunction with the Packers Hall of Fame, for the purpose of annually honoring a devout and longtime Packers fan.

As has been the case each of the past eight years, nominees are being sought for recognition by a selection committee. The late Mel Knoke of Appleton was chosen as the inaugural enshrinee in the FAN Hall of Fame. The 91-year-old Knoke, who died between the time of his election and enshrinement, was honored posthumously at the 1999 Packers Hall of Fame Induction Banquet.

COLLECTIONS ACCEPTED THROUGH WEEK

Packers Women's Association members Dr. Kaye Cole and Laura Hawk, co-chairs of this year's Food Drive for Paul's Pantry, along with other PWA members, will be at the West Mason Street Festival Foods location this afternoon from 4 to 5 p.m. to promote the cause, which continues this week at all Festival Foods locations.

Collections at last Sunday's Packers-Rams game totaled $13,432.53 and 22,400 non-perishable food items. In 20 years of conducting the food drive, the PWA now has collected nearly 566,400 non-perishable food items and more than $190,000 for Paul's Pantry, a supplementary food distribution program for the needy in the greater Green Bay area.

Continuing through the end of this week, all Festival Foods locations will have bins in their stores to collect food for the cause. Green Bay and De Pere Festival Foods will be sending donations to Paul's Pantry and other ..

The Green Bay Packers will host the fourth annual Halloween-themed event, 'Spooktacular Fun,' Saturday, Oct. 21, in the Lambeau Field Atrium, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Two new haunted houses headline this year's event, one for younger ghouls in mind and a second, the Haunted Concourse, designed for teens with a PG-13 rating. The Haunted Concourse will be set in a darkened Lambeau Field concourse and features seven scenes of high-tech shocks and horrors. Green Bay Packers fans last Sunday answered the call in fine fashion for the Annual Food Drive for Paul's Pantry, coordinated by the Packers Women's Association in conjunction with Festival Foods. A total of $13,432.53 was raised and 22,400 non-perishable food items were collected.

"We send out our enthusiastic appreciation to all the fans who contributed to this cause. It was a tremendous response," said Dr. Kaye Cole, who along with Laura Hawk co-chaired this year's effort. Sunday's St. Louis Rams-Green Bay Packers game re-airs Tuesday at 19:30 PM CT on NFL Network's new series, NFL Replay.

An encore presentation of NFL Replay featuring the Rams-Packers re-airs Friday, October 13 at 4:30 PM CT.

NFL Replay airs NFL game broadcasts from the previous weekend, complete with original television announcers and cameras just days after their live airing.

In order to give the games context, NFL Network will add sideline and on-field sound captured during the game and post-game press conference sound bites.

Other enhancements will include exclusive shots and camera angles from NFL Films, allowing fans an inside look at game action they did not see on Sunday. This will give fans a deeper understanding of the game, the players and the coaches.

Jim Trost, of Horicon High School, has been named Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week, the organization announced Thursday.

Trost is in his fourth season as head coach of the Marshmen. After qualifying for the playoffs in 2005, Horicon is off to a 6-0 start this season. A member of the East Central Flyway Conference, they are currently ranked No. 2 in the latest Division 5 Associated Press poll. The Marshmen travel to take on conference foe Markesan Friday.

"Receiving this award is a great achievement not only for myself but for our program," Trost said. "This award is a gratification of all the hard work over the last four years."

Trost and his staff oversee a program of 62 players, 36 of whom compete on the varsity squad. He is assisted by Alex Koepsell, Chris Spiers, Shawn Carr, Matt Paulson, Don Davidson, Dave Magnussen, Tim Schultz and Eric Kluge.

The Packers Women's Association, in conjunction with Festival Foods, will hold its 20th Annual Food Drive for Paul's Pantry prior to Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams at Lambeau Field. This year's effort is headed by co-chairwomen Dr. Kaye Cole and Laura Hawk.

PWA members, who will be wearing their husband's or significant other's jersey or PWA jerseys, will collect non-perishable food items and cash donations in the stadium parking lot and at the gates prior to kickoff. Volunteers from Paul's Pantry will be assisting with the collection and Festival Food's 'Big Carts' will be on site to promote the cause, too.

The Green Bay Packers Wednesday promoted cornerback Patrick Dendy from the practice squad to the active roster and placed defensive tackle Kenderick Allen on injured reserve. Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson made the announcement.

In addition Wednesday, the club signed linebacker Spencer Havner to replace Dendy on the practice squad.

Dendy, a 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back, is in his second year out of Rice. In 2005, he spent the season's first 10 weeks on the practice squad before making his NFL debut on Nov. 13 at Atlanta and playing in four games. Green Bay originally signed Dendy as a non-drafted free agent in the spring of 2005.

Havner (pronounced HEY-vner) is a 6-foot-3, 245-pound rookie from UCLA. Like Dendy, he signed as a non-drafted free agent out of college. The linebacker spent training camp with the Redskins before Washington released him in its final preseason roster reduction.

Abdul Hodge is doubtful with a knee. Donald Lee and Ben Taylor are both questionable as we move on to tomorrow. Lee was a knee. Taylor is a hamstring.

The Green Bay Packers are accepting nominations for the Community Quarterback Award, it was announced today.

Funded by the Green Bay Packers and NFL Charities, the Green Bay Packers Community Quarterback Award recognizes volunteers within the state of Wisconsin, age 13 and over, who demonstrate leadership, dedication and a commitment to bettering their communities through volunteering for a non-profit (501(c)(3) or 509) organization of their choice without compensation.
