Packers Give Six Jr. Community Quarterback Awards

The Green Bay Packers recently awarded six grants from its Jr. Community Quarterback Awards program to individuals and the groups with which they are affiliated.

A total of $6,000 was awarded to groups this year.

The Green Bay Packers Jr. Community Quarterback Awards program, with $1,000 grants, is designed to honor high school and college students (ages 13 to 21) who exemplify leadership, dedication, creativity and a commitment to improving the communities in which they live through volunteerism. Potential recipients are required to partner with an established organization within the community. Applications were submitted by eligible individuals or groups of young people who created a new community betterment project or are working to sustain a project they already initiated. Such individuals or groups may be nominated by others as well.

The grant recipients, projects and community affiliations are as follows:

Dan Nelson, Freedom, Wis.
Outdoor classroom construction
Eagle Scout Project - Freedom Elementary School, Freedom, Wis.

Angie Runingen, De Pere, Wis.
Supporting and tutoring at-risk youth at Jefferson Elementary School, Green Bay
St. Norbert College Midwest Campus Compact Citizen Scholar Fellowship Program, De Pere, Wis.

Matthew Koldos, Marinette, Wis.
Various community service projects for those in need
The Crew of University of Wisconsin-Marinette, Marinette, Wis.

Marnie McCann, West Allis, Wis.
Student group landscaping around school
West Allis Central High School Special Education CD Program, West Allis, Wis.

Janelle Brooks, Janesville, Wis.
Library improvement project at St. William Catholic School
Read to Succeed, St. William Catholic School, Janesville, Wis.

Shawn Becker, West Bend, Wis.
Various community service projects for those in need
Badger Middle School Builders Club-West Bend Noon Kiwanis Club, West Bend, Wis.
