Packers Hall Of Fame To Induct Brooks, Butler

Two former Packers greats, wide receiver Robert Brooks and defensive back LeRoy Butler, will be inducted into the <a href="http://www.lambeaufield.com/hall_of_fame/inductees/"target="new">Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame at the 37th Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, to be held the evening of July 21, 2007, in the Lambeau Field Atrium.

Brooks, who retired from the Packers following the 1998 season, authored a distinguished 7-year career (1992-98) for the Green and Gold and ranks 11th on the club's all-time receptions list with 306 catches for 4,225 yards and 32 touchdowns.

One of the most popular and productive players in the team's history, Brooks in 1995 endeared himself to Packers fans by leaping into the stands to share his elation following his touchdown receptions, building upon a move first performed in 1993 by fellow inductee, LeRoy Butler. Brooks' often-executed move (he scored 13 touchdowns in '95) soon was dubbed the "Lambeau Leap" and is now firmly..

Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - Jan. 15

(Why did you decide to go with Philbin as offensive coordinator?)
Well, for a number of different reasons. Not knowing Joe before I hired him last year as the offensive line coach, I've had the opportunity to work with him this past year and have been very impressed with everything I've seen from him. Professionally, I'd classify him as a high character individual. Personally, I think he's an excellent fit for the direction that we're going with our offense.

(Do you continue with the zone blocking scheme?)
Yes, that's a primary concept in our run game, and we'll continue to use that.

(How much does the continuity help you and the players?)
I think it helps a lot. Consistency was something that quite frankly we did not have as a football team particularly the first half of the season. This enables us to continue to build. On a personal matter, I feel very good about watching a guy like Joe Philbin graduate to..

Philbin, Three Others Promoted On Packers Coaching Staff

The Green Bay Packers Monday promoted Joe Philbin to offensive coordinator, Winston Moss to assistant head coach/defense, James Campen to offensive line coach and Jerry Fontenot to assistant offensive line coach. Head Coach Mike McCarthy made the announcement.

Philbin, 45, replaces Jeff Jagodzinski, named Dec. 19 the new head coach at Boston College. Entering his fifth season with the Packers, Philbin served previously as assistant offensive line coach (2003) and tight ends/assistant offensive line coach (2004-05). Prior to this past season, McCarthy appointed him in charge of the entire offensive line, an important role considering the team was implementing a zone-blocking scheme and would draft three rookies to start across the line.

A coaching veteran of 23 years, Philbin entered the league after four seasons (1999-2002) at Iowa, where four of his pupils were drafted by NFL clubs, three within the first two rounds. His 19 seasons on collegiate staffs included tim..

Construction Underway On Lambeau Field's New Playing Surface

NEW NATURAL FIELD, HEATING AND DRAINAGE SYSTEMS TO BE INSTALLED

The makeover of Lambeau Field's playing surface got underway this week, a project that will bring the latest technology to the hallowed ground.

The north end of field currently is the primary focus of the project as several machines worked to remove all levels of the playing surface. In addition to the front end loaders and shovel tractors chugging away, a nifty configuration of conveyor belts has been constructed to carry the refuse directly from the field out to the parking lot at the southwest corner of the stadium. The arrangement removes the need to truck the materials through the loading dock.

In a project that will take several months to complete, DD GrassMaster, a natural grass surface reinforced with man-made fibers developed by Desso DLW Sports Systems, will be installed on top of a completely new drainage and heating system. The new surface and underlying systems represent the..
A complete edition of the Dope Sheet is available each week during the season in PDF format, located in the Packers.com Game Centers.

SEASON AT A GLANCE: The Packers finished strong, winning their final four games to conclude Mike McCarthy's first season as Head Coach with a .500 record (8-8). Green Bay narrowly missed clinching one of the NFC's six playoff berths and finished No. 7 in the conference standings.

Recipients from each NFL team are selected by their teammates for displaying commitments to the principles of courage and sportsmanship, while serving as inspirations in their locker rooms.

Ryan performed admirably vs. the Jets (Dec. 3), despite the passing of his father just two days earlier, averaging 39.5 yards on two punts.

"Not playing didn't cross my mind once," Ryan said following the game. "It wasn't even my decision. It was my dad's decision. I knew my dad would want me out there playing, but at the same time under the circumstances it was very difficult."

Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - Jan. 3

(Given what you inherited, how close is 8-8 to the goals you set?)
Well, there's always just one ultimate goal. I've been asked this the last couple days, how do you register success for your football team. I think success comes in different levels. The ultimate success is winning the Super Bowl, and I know only one team achieves that this year. As you look at the levels you need to climb throughout the season, first instituting your program, I think we definitely achieved that. Changing the culture, the environment, the attitude, we were successful doing that. Improving on last year, making improvement throughout the season, that's important. I think that's a success. So I think we have achieved a number of small successes, but until we ultimately achieve the ultimate success of winning the Super Bowl, we will not be satisfied.

(Several of your defeats came to playoff teams. Does that give you hope?)
Frankly I don't look at it that way...

Packers To Pick 16th In 2007 NFL Draft

The Green Bay Packers will make the 16th choice of the 2007 National Football League Draft on April 28-29. The order of the 2007 Draft was announced Tuesday by the NFL.

The Oakland Raiders' own the top choice, followed by the Detroit Lions picking second and either the Cleveland Browns or Tampa Bay Buccaneers third. Cleveland and Tampa Bay are tied, so a coin flip will decide in which position each team selects.

Draft-order ties are resolved by the cumulative record of each team's opponents. The team with the weaker opponents receives drafting priority.

Within a tied segment, non-playoff clubs are given priority over playoff clubs. Priority of playoff clubs within a tied segment will be based on their advancement in the playoffs, but they will not drop out of their tied segment unless they participate in the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl champion will select 32nd and the runner-up 31st.
