| Packers Hall Of Fame Induction Banquet Presenters Announced
The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, Inc. Tuesday announced the presenters for the 37th Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, to be held the evening of July 21, 2007, in the Lambeau Field Atrium. Former Packers wide receiver Antonio Freeman will present Robert Brooks and ESPN anchor and Green Bay native John Anderson will present LeRoy Butler. Freeman, drafted in the third round in 1995 out of Virginia Tech, went on to play eight years in Green Bay (1995-2001, 2003) and became one of top receivers in team annals. Freeman and Brooks in 1997 became the first wide receiver tandem in club history to each post 1,000 yards receiving (1,243 and 1,010, respectively). In club record books, Freeman stands fifth in career receptions (431) and yards (6,651) and third in touchdown receptions (57). His 57 scoring connections with Brett Favre mark the most successful partnership in Packers annals and sixth best in NFL history.
Anderson, whom Butler grew to know well during the retired safety's work for ESPN in 2001, is a 1983 graduate of Green Bay Southwest High School. He joined ESPN in June 1999 as an ESPNEWS anchor and now anchors SportsCenter, ESPN's flagship sports news program. In 2003, he co-wrote a book with golfer Chi Chi Rodriquez, Chi Chi's Golf Games You Gotta Play.
Prior to his career at ESPN, he worked at KPHO-TV in Phoenix, Ariz., (1996-99), KOTV in Tulsa, Okla. (1990-96), KTUL-TV in Tulsa, Okla. (1988-90) and KOMU-TV in Colombia, Mo. (1987-88). He won the Outstanding Sports Feature Reporting Award, presented by the Oklahoma Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, in 1994 and 1995; in 1997, he received the Associated Press Television Award in Arizona for outstanding performance in broadcast journalism. Anderson graduated from the University of Missouri's School of Journalism with a bachelor's degree in 1987. He was a four-year member of the men's track team and captained the squad his senior season. In addition to the induction of Brooks and Butler, the Hall of Fame will formally recognize this year's FAN honoree, Rich Barbera. Tickets for the banquet, which begins with a cash bar at 4:30 p.m., with dinner and program to follow at 7 p.m., are $110 each. Tables of 10 also are available and are assigned in the order in which they are purchased. Early reservations are recommended. To purchase tickets, call Gwen Borga at 920/965-6984, or e-mail her at gborga@packerhalloffame.org. No refunds are available 30 days prior to the event. The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, Inc. is a non-profit corporation independent of the Green Bay Packers that guides the Hall as a historic national sports venue and educational resource to the Green Bay community and the state of Wisconsin. The Hall raises funds through its annual induction banquet, Golf Classic and other events to develop new exhibits and expand its archives. Historic memorabilia donated by individuals to the Hall may qualify as tax-deductible gifts. The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, Inc. Golf Classic is set for July 9 at The Bull in Sheboygan Falls, Wis. Originally established in 1967 as a temporary display in the concourse of the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena, the Hall moved into its own facility in 1976 near Lambeau Field. In 2003, it was relocated to a spectacular new, 25,000-square foot facility in the Lambeau Field Atrium. The Hall of Fame is open on non-game days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hours may vary on game days and holidays. For more information, contact the Hall of Fame at 920/569-7512. |
