posted 04/03/2007
Reflects Growth Of Organization's Leadership Development With CEO Transition
Green Bay Packers President/COO John Jones Tuesday named Vicki Vannieuwenhoven vice president of finance and Jason Wied vice president of administration. The promotions reflect the growth and development of the club's leadership structure as it readies for the transition to Jones as CEO.
Jones, who officially assumes the role as the organization's CEO at the team's May 30 Board of Directors' meeting, appointed Vannieuwenhoven and Wied to their new positions which will include expanded responsibilities involving the daily management of the Packers' business and administrative operations.
"One of my most important roles as CEO with the organization will be to continue our strategic development and, more importantly, the development of the people in the organization," said Jones. "Vicki and Jason are talented individuals who have performed exceptionally as department heads on what we call our Leadership Team. They're from the area and have an appreciation for the unique nature of the franchise. This is a natural progression for them and I look forward to their continued contributions to our success.
"We have a wealth of talented people and need to continue to foster the development of our Leadership Team and other managers within the organization. This is another step in our growth. They, along with the rest of our Leadership and Management teams, continue preparations for a successful 2007 season."
"With an eye on the development of the franchise's next leaders, Jones several years ago led the organization in creating a fully encompassing strategic plan, including the creation of a management skills and staff development program. These new opportunities for Vannieuwenhoven and Wied began in early 2006 as they assumed more leadership responsibilities at the request of Jones as he continued his transition to CEO.
Vannieuwenhoven (pronounced van-EVEN-hoven), 40, becomes the first female vice president in the 89-year history of the organization. In her expanded role, she'll lead the day-to-day financial operations of the club, including revenue-generating departments such as marketing and ticket operations, and also work with Jones on NFL economic issues such as revenue sharing. Vannieuwenhoven, a certified public accountant, also will continue to oversee budgeting, the audit process, human resources, and work closely with the organization's treasurer, the Board of Directors' audit and investment committees, and the stadium district.
"Vicki will be responsible for guiding the organization to achieve its financial goals," Jones said. "She's demonstrated considerable acumen with respect to the financial operations of the team and will continue to be a key leader in ongoing employee training and staff development."
She originally joined the Packers in February 1995 as an accountant after working at Ernst and Whinney in Milwaukee (1988-89) and Wipfli, Ullrich, Bertelson (now Wipfli LLP) in Green Bay (1989-95). The Crivitz, Wis., native earlier graduated from Crivitz High School (1984) and St. Norbert College (1988) with a degree in accounting. Promoted to director of finance in 1999, she has coordinated the organization's annual audits, including the NFL Salary Cap, and also was instrumental in establishing a human resources department and staff development program. Vannieuwenhoven is married to Trevor, and the couple has three children.
Wied, 35, joined the Packers in September 2000 as corporate counsel after practicing civil litigation and business law for two years (1998-2000) at the law firm of Liebmann, Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry, S.C., in Green Bay. In his expanded role, he'll continue to assist Jones with league matters, including attending NFL meetings, as well as the day-to-day management of the team's administrative operations, including information technology, public relations, facility operations and security. He'll continue to oversee the team's corporate governance with the Board of Directors and manage shareholder relations.
"Jason will continue to assist me on strategic league matters," said Jones. "His previous work overseeing the club's corporate legal matters and administrative responsibilities has been of high quality. I look forward to his continued valuable counsel on key issues for the Packers."
A Green Bay native, Wied graduated from Green Bay Premontre High School (1990), the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1995) and Marquette University Law School (1998). His early work with the team included coordination of the construction and lease negotiations involving the redevelopment of Lambeau Field as well as the team's successful application for the NFL's G-3 stadium funding. In addition to managing the team's corporate legal matters, he also guided strategic media and sponsorship agreements associated with the redeveloped stadium. Wied is married to Melissa, and the couple has three children. |
