I share your opinion. I thought it was sloppy. I thought the false starts of the offense were way too many. The two-minute mechanics is always a little rugged first time out, if you look in the spring, you look back to last year. I've experienced that. But there's no excuse for false starts, whether it's guys not concentrating because they're tired and so forth. But I thought offensively we started sluggish in the team run, so it really started for us early, and I thought they actually responded very well and put together a really good practice until the two-minute. I think the defense was playing with excellent tempo. I thought schematically they challenged the offense also. I think our defense is doing a good job. We had good special teams work. I thought the environment here was excellent to work in, and I thought we had a good night's work.

The Green Bay Packers have signed free agent Joe Werner, a former basketball player at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the signing Tuesday.

Werner, a 6-foot-6, 252-pound tight end, was a two-time Division III All-American. The 2007 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, he led the team in both scoring (16.7 points per game) and rebounding (9.7 rebounds per game). Werner finished his career fourth on the school's scoring list (1,404 points) and second in career rebounds (829).

He will wear No. 47.

To make room on the roster, punter David Lonie was placed on injured reserve.

I thought the whole practice was sharp. We can start with the defense. I thought they did a great job of practicing in pads. You could have those close collisions. I thought they played smart and were extremely sharp. I thought the offense was very sharp, particularly in the red zone. I was very pleased with three series (in the red zone).

(Is Donald Driver clear to practice?)
He's clear. He has no limitations. We're just being cautious with his shoulder.

(How do Johnny Jolly and Ryan Pickett look?)
They passed their test yesterday. They're all set and ready to go. It's much needed.

Vernand's injury is a little more serious than we anticipated, so it may be a couple weeks for him.

(Will he need a scope?)
I don't think so. No. Pat McKenzie just thinks it's a little more serious than he initially thought. Just like I said, it's going to be maybe a couple weeks.

(Was the injury from a collision?)
He really didn't know when he did it in practice. There were two plays back to back. The one where he had the hard cut to the left, he kind of fell a little bit there, and there was a play I think it was actually prior to that where he was in a situation where his legs got crossed up on the pass protection that he was blocking on. I think it happened on one of those two plays. He's not really sure when it happened.

Details Being Finalized For Packers' Practice At City Stadium July 31

The Green Bay Packers Sunday announced more details regarding the team's practice at City Stadium July 31.

The Tuesday evening practice session will be the first Packers practice in nearly 50 years at the team's former home field (1925-56). The team last practiced at the site Aug. 5, 1961, when it held an intra-squad game at the location.

In anticipation of a high turnout for the practice and to enhance the safety for those attending, Baird Street will be closed from Walnut Street to Main Street, beginning at 4 p.m. Practice will end at approximately 9 p.m. and Baird Street should be open to traffic within an hour of the practice's conclusion.

Gates to City Stadium will open at 5 p.m. The only point of entry will be the stadium's main gates on the west end of the field, off Baird Street. The practice will be free to the public, but in the "pass-the-hat" spirit of games in the 1920s and 30s at City Stadium, donations will be accepted to support the new Green..

Well that's kind of the nature of our business in training camp. We have our pro staff that keeps constant boards, we keep track of all waivers and things like that. But you're always an ankle sprain away from being a little bit light at one position. The danger, and we've talked about that in past training camps, the danger with one guy going down is all of a sudden it puts stress on the remaining guys, because you normally, like in the tight end position, we were counting on having five, and we had the rotations worked out, and here's where we're going to use two tight ends and here's who were going to go with three, but then it kind of gets all boggled up. And that happens during preseason games too. When you have a player that you plan on playing in the second quarter and then none in the third and fourth, and then he'd play on special teams in the third and fourth and all of a sudden he has to play the who..

It didn't look very good. He was in a lot of pain, so we'll see what happens.

I did not see him specifically, so I don't know if he was in space. He was on the edge, and the feedback that I got was that he was in space, so obviously the film will show us clearly what happened.

The Green Bay Packers have signed rookie defensive tackle Justin Harrell, the team's first-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the signing Friday.

Harrell, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound player from Tennessee, was a four-year letterman and defensive captain in 2006. He became the last Tennessee player to wear Reggie White's No. 92.

In 35 career games, including 25 starts, Harrell tallied 82 tackles, four sacks and two interceptions. He earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors in 2005 before injuries limited his senior season to three games.

Harrell is the final of 11 draft picks to sign with the Packers. All rookies will take the field Saturday when the team opens training camp at 2 p.m.

Jones, a 6-foot-1, 207-pound player from San Jose State, was named second-team All-Western Athletic Conference and team MVP with a career-high 70 catches for 893 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2006. First-round pick Justin Harrell is the only rookie remaining to be signed.

Blomvall, a native of Sweden, has played the past two seasons for the Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europa. He played two seasons at Temple University, where he served as team captain as a 2004 senior. He will wear No. 71.

First, I'd like to welcome everybody back. It's good to see everybody. I hope you had a very good summer. I know I did. It was nice to get away. But I'll say this, it's nice to see everybody come back, particularly this week, with all the players starting to come through the doors, seeing the excitement start to pick up here at Lambeau Field. So we're excited about this training camp starting today. Just to give you an idea what the schedule is, we had physicals this morning, we have a run test that started at 11:30, that is going on as we speak, and then we will have 2 to 4 o'clock meetings this afternoon, and then we'll have dinner over at St. Norbert. The players will be off tonight and we will start in the morning with the football aspect of it. With that, I'll take your questions.

Crane Named Public Relations Coordinator

Rob Crane, the Green Bay Packers' public relations intern in 2006, was promoted to public relations coordinator, Jason Wied, the Packers' vice president of administration/corporate counsel, announced Friday.

In his new role, Crane will serve as the primary writer of all football releases for the club, as well as assist with all the organization's media relations efforts. Other contributions will include coordinating player interviews with print and electronic media, including all radio requests.

Crane, 23, graduated from Boston College in May 2006 with a bachelor's degree in communications.

While at Boston College, Crane worked as a student assistant in the school's sports information department form 2003-06, serving as the sports information director for three varsity programs, as well as assisting with media relations duties across all 31 sports overall. He served as a media relations representative for the Eagles' football team, traveling to away games. ..

As the Director of Player Development, Terry will be vital in maintaining locker room cohesiveness and overall player health. He will assist players in acclimating to their roles, both on and off the field. Lambeau Field To Welcome 17,000-Plus For Wednesday's Shareholders Meeting

More than 17,000 shareholders and guests are expected at the Green Bay Packers' Annual Meeting of shareholders Wednesday, July 25, at Lambeau Field. Doors to the Lambeau Field Atrium open at 8 a.m., with the meeting to start at 10 a.m. in the stadium bowl.

For shareholders' comfort and convenience, the Lambeau Field Atrium will be open only to shareholders and their guests the day of the meeting, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. After 4 p.m., the Atrium will be open to the general public, too. The Packers Pro Shop will be open to the general public from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Parking will be free in the Lambeau Field lot, and due to the large number of shareholders attending, will be limited. The lot will open at 7 a.m. and people attending the meeting are asked to arrive early and, due to construction on Lombardi Avenue, should follow signage into the lot.

The Green Bay Packers have signed linebacker Desmond Bishop and kicker Mason Crosby, two of three successive selections made by the club in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Bishop, a 6-foot-2, 241-pound player from California, was selected 192nd overall. A first-team All-Pac 10 selection in 2006, he became the first Cal player in 13 years to lead the conference in tackles.

Crosby, a 6-foot-1, 212-pound player from Colorado, was chosen 193rd overall. A three-time All-Big 12 selection, he established a total of 31 game, season and career records at Colorado.

The Green Bay Packers' Executive Committee formally has accepted the resignation of John Jones and has formed a search committee to select the organization's new chief executive officer. Peter Platten, speaking on behalf of the organization's Executive Committee, made the announcement Friday.

"We've formed a search committee to begin the process of selecting a new CEO for the Packers," said Platten. "On behalf of the Board of Directors, our role will be to conduct a thorough search to select a person of outstanding ability to continue strong leadership of this unique and historic franchise."

The Green Bay Packers recently promoted Beth Haws to special events corporate sales manager and hired Wendy Jansen as special events account executive, the team announced.

Haws, a Wisconsin native with more than 16 years of experience in the hospitality industry, oversees all sales and management of special events in Lambeau Field and the Lambeau Field Atrium. The Green Bay Packers were one of 11 teams to receive an international player as part of the NFL International Development Practice Squad Program, the league announced today.

Carl-Johan Bjork, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, will join the Packers in training camp and remain on the practice squad throughout the season.

Bjork, a 6-foot, 247-pound linebacker, is participating in the program for a second season, having spent the 2006 season with the Dallas Cowboys. He spent three seasons with the Amsterdam Admirals (2005-07).

Bjork will not count against the team's eight-player practice squad roster, but is eligible to participate in practice and in preseason games.

On Thursday, July 12, at 7 p.m. CT, NFL Network airs the original network broadcast of the Green Bay Packers vs. Oakland Raiders 2003 Monday Night Football game on the new series, NFL Classics.

NFL Classics gives fans the rare opportunity to relive the Packers-Raiders game as it aired on ABC on Dec. 22, 2003. The broadcast features the original announcers, Al Michaels and John Madden.

Playing with a heavy heart following the death of his father Irvin, Brett Favre completed 22 of 30 passes for 399 yards and four touchdowns as the Packers dominated the Raiders 41-7.

Brett Favre to Don Hutson - yes, it's a Packers fan's ultimate fantasy quarterback-receiver tandem, but when Favre and his teammates take to the field at historic City Stadium Tuesday evening, July 31, for a training camp practice, the would-be fabled connection will become much more imaginable.

The practice session, the first Packers practice in nearly 50 years at the team's former home field (1925-56), was announced Thursday afternoon at Green Bay East High School by Packers Chairman Bob Harlan, Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt and Green Bay Area Public School District Superintendent Daniel Nerad.

Today's Packers will have the opportunity to play at the same venue that hosted legendary Green Bay players Hutson, Curly Lambeau, Arnie Herber, Tony Canadeo and Clarke Hinkle. The Packers last practiced at the site Aug. 5, 1961, when the team held an intra-squad scrimmage at the location.
