Mike McCarthy Post-Game Press Conference Transcript - Sept. 30

Corey Williams had a back, but he did return. Nick Collins had a knee, and he also returned in the second half. Atari Bigby had cramps, but he obviously returned. He had the interception there at the end, and Al Harris had a hand but he played through it till the end.

(With Brett getting the record and you guys winning today, could there have been a better way to script it?)
That's the way you want to do it, that's for sure. Just the speech that he gave to his teammates, he illustrated that. Especially to come up here and win makes it even a little more special. This is a tough place to play, to play against the Vikings. It's a rival football game, so this is a very nice win for our football team, and it's a great day to break a very impressive record.

(What were your first thoughts after Brett broke the record?)
I was looking for flags like I always do. It kind of hits you when they put Dan Marino up on the board. I thought Da..

Quotes From Around The League On Favre And The NFL Touchdown Record

Dan Marino's videotaped message to Favre after touchdown pass 421
"Hey Brett, it's Dan Marino. I'd like to take a minute to congratulate you on breaking one of the great records in sports. I loved holding the touchdown record for the past 13 years, but if someone was going to break it, I'm glad it was someone like you, who has always competed at the highest level and always played only to win. Over the past 17 years, you've been a credit to the Packers, and to the National Football League and to the sport that we all love so much. Brett, congratulations on touchdown 421!"

**

Commissioner Roger Goodell
"Brett Favre is one of the greatest players in NFL history. He's so much fun to watch not only because of his talent but also because of his competitive spirit. He is the only player to win three MVP awards and his consecutive games streak at quarterback is a tribute to his toughness and passion for the game. Brett has been a leader on the field..

Packers-Vikings Press Box Notes

PACKERS HEAD INTO DIVISION PLAY UNDEFEATED
-Green Bay opens up play in the NFC North this weekend as it travels to Minnesota to take on the Vikings.

-The Packers moved to 3-0 for the first time since 2001 last Sunday with a 31-24 victory over the San Diego Chargers, while the Vikings fell to 1-2 with a 13-10 loss at Kansas City.

-According to Elias Sports Bureau, this is the first time in Packers history that the club has begun the season 3-0, with all three wins coming against teams that made the playoffs in the previous year.

-In fact, the 2007 Packers are just the fourth team in league history to accomplish the feat. The 1982 Washington Redskins, 1991 Houston Oilers and 2002 Saints - under offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy - are the only other clubs in NFL history to open a season with three consecutive wins over teams that reached the playoffs the previous season.

-Only defending Super Bowl champion Indianapolis (eight) enters ..

Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - Sept. 28

(How did Morency do and how's his progress?)
Vernand had an excellent day today. He went through all the reps. He looks like he has his bounce back. It was just good to see him out there knocking the rust off. I thought he had a good day today, and he put together three full days of work.

(He hasn't had any contact, will that limit how you use him?)
I'm not worried about the contact. I thought Wednesday's practice, we didn't go live, but I thought we had a very spirited, physical practice Wednesday. Thursday same thing with the team run and blitz. I'm not concerned about that. But we're the same course of action with the running back group. So as far as who does what, time will tell, but he's not prepared nor is he going to be asked to take all the snaps.

(Does Brandon's shin make the odd-man-out decision for you?)
His shin has gotten worse. He feels worse today than he did yesterday. We rehabbed him today and..

Packers Coach Of The Week: Ray Mlada and Scott Fritz, Chilton High School

Chilton High School varsity co-head coaches Ray Mlada and Scott Fritz have been named Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week, the organization announced Thursday.

The Tigers improved to a perfect 5-0 (3-0 in conference play) on the 2007 campaign with their 19-6 victory at Olympian-Packerland Large foe Sturgeon Bay last week.

"I'd like to thank the Green Bay Packers and everybody that's involved in with this award," Fritz said. "It's definitely a great honor. It's more of a reflection of Ray, I, our assistants and our players. So it's definitely a great honor."

Fritz, who joined the Tigers coaching staff in 1994, returned this season after taking a year off from coaching in 2006.

"While I was gone it felt like five or 10 years," Fritz said. "Once I got back, it felt like I never left."

Mlada is glad to have him back.

"I'd like to thank coach Scott Fritz for coming back this season to work with me," he said. "It's always been a great..

Transcript - Mike McCarthy Conference Call With Vikings Media - Sept. 26

Q: Are you surprised at all you guys got off to a fast start?
A: Am I surprised? That was the plan. We talked about it all offseason and we geared a number of things to the start of the season just like most teams do. I think it's just very important that we're winning the close games and that's what you got to do particularly early on in the season.

Q: It seems like Brett Favre's making better decisions than he was ever since you've got there. What went in to convincing him to make better decisions?
A: I wish I had something real special for you. We installed the offense and it was a lot of carryover conceptually from systems that he has run here in Green Bay in the past. We coach the play just like every play that certain plays are read a certain way and just hold him accountable to the decisions like all of our quarterbacks. He's in a rhythm right now, particularly the last two weeks. He's making good decisions but his urgency..

Q: You guys have been playing well; what has been the key to that?
A: Like I just told our media, it has been three games and two of them were good. The first one was awful. I'd like to say that there is some big secret we have going on here; if you watch our game last week, it was nothing fancy about it. It was get the ball into your guys' hands. We're obviously struggling running the ball so we're having to throw the ball and get it out quick and kind of just let our guys make some plays, and that's the difference. Our guys are making those plays right now.

Q: You have some kind of record that you are going for, is that true?
A: I have no idea. (laughing)

Q: You have talked about not worrying about that stuff and just worrying about winning...?
A: That's true, that's true. I'd much rather win. Reliability, durability, and winning, the other things come with that. I've played a long time. Fortunately ..

(Will Favre miss any practice time this week?)
He just had a small cut. It happened Monday night at the house. He went through the team (drills). I gave Aaron some of his reps today. He's going to be fine. He's played with a lot worse.

(With Jennings, are you just taking it easy with him?)
We're just being smart with Greg. He's a little sore today. We're just being smart. I talked about it in the past. I don't want to get into a cycle where it's every couple of weeks. He's fine. He feels great. The guy that's holding him back is myself. I'm just being smart with him.

(Is Bubba's knee a big concern, could it linger through the week?)
He's just sore. I'm hopeful it will be just like last week. He didn't feel good at the beginning of last week but felt a little bit better on Wednesday. He's just sore. It's kind of an older type of thing from my understanding. I'm not anticipating him not playing.

Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - Sept. 24

OK, I'll start with the injuries. We have a number of guys nicked up. Nick Collins had a low back contusion. Donald Driver, he just got banged on the knee, just some soreness there. Brandon Jackson, shin contusion. DeShawn Wynn, ankle. Al Harris, back spasms. Cullen Jenkins, injury to his side. And Charles Woodson had a hip flexor. With that I'll answer your questions.

(What's the difference between a 'Victory Monday' and 'Medical Monday'?)
Not a big difference to answer your question. The schedule is pretty similar. We just wanted to put an emphasis on getting in here, getting their strength and conditioning work done today, and getting everybody through the training room for two treatments and to go through a one-on-one session with their coach. We're still basically getting our work done, but doing more as an individual with an emphasis on let's get healthy.

(So on 'Victory Monday' the players are totally off?)
No, we do the ..

(How is your football team?)
We're 3-0. We're a team that's improving. We beat a very good football team today. That's an excellent win. I thought the environment was incredible. I thought the fans were outstanding. They were with us every step of the way. It's a very big team win for us. I think it's one you can point to as far as building your program. I'm happy with the energy that we're playing with. I thought they played physical. The urgency coming out of the gate, we knew they were going to try to run the football on us and be physical with us. I thought it was an excellent team win.

(What does it say about the way the team rallied?)
I think that speaks to the character of your football team. We knew there were going to be some big plays in the game. That fourth quarter had a number of them back-to-back. I thought San Diego did a real nice job on third down, for us to come back and respond offensively. I thought our special teams ..

(Do you feel OK about everything now injury-wise, especially at receiver?)
Yeah, we feel good. Talking with both Greg and James post-practice, they felt they went through the practice OK, so we'll just forge ahead.

(With all these injuries now, has it made you question the training camp schedule at all?)
I think it was clearly the best way to go, just from the feedback I've gotten from our medical staff. That's really the group I leaned on the most as far as the feedback on how the camp went, during camp, and then post-camp. That's why you play the games. As far as the injuries, they're going to happen. I'm hopeful this is our rough patch that we're having early in the year. You go through stages like this. Once you get into the regular season games, injuries are going to happen. I think that's just a product of what's going on here the last two weeks. We've played two pretty physical football games.

Head coach MIKE MCCARTHY of the Green Bay Packers is the MOTOROLA NFL COACH OF THE WEEK for games played on September 16 - 17, the NFL announced Friday.

McCarthy led the Packers to a 35-13 victory over the New York Giants. The Packers have won six consecutive games dating to last season, the longest current winning streak in the league. They won their opener by holding off the Philadelphia Eagles in a defensive struggle. In Week 2, their offense scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to secure the victory. Green Bay is young and talented on defense, with only two starters in their 30s. The Packers are the only team in the league with five of their own draft choices starting on the offensive line.

McCarthy was selected as Motorola NFL Coach of the Week from among three finalists by voters on NFL.com. The other finalists were head coaches GARY KUBIAK of the Houston Texans and KEN WHISENHUNT of the Arizona Cardinals.
Packers Coach Of The Week: Andy Coldren, Beloit Turner High School

Andy Coldren, of Beloit Turner High School, has been named Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week, the organization announced Thursday.

Coldren and the Trojans snapped a 32-game losing streak with a 7-0 victory over Orfordville Parkview last week. It was Beloit Turner's (1-3) first victory since Oct. 10, 2003, a drought of nearly four years.

"It's a real tribute to the program to be selected as high school coach of the week," Coldren said. "I'd like to thank the kids for working (hard) all summer."

The win also marked the first-ever victory for Coldren, who is entering his first season as a varsity head coach with his alma mater. Coldren, who graduated from Beloit Turner in 1986, was hired to coach the Trojans after a 10-year stint (1997-'06) as junior varsity head coach at Janesville Parker High School.

Coldren, who was born in Beloit, started rebuilding the Trojans program as soon as he was hired. The team had only 19 players before he arrived. Cold..

Transcript - Brett Favre Conference Call With The National Media - Sept. 19

THE MODERATOR: We are pleased to have Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre on the call today. Thank you for joining us.

Q. Brett, which record is going to be more meaningful to you, the victories or this upcoming touchdown mark?
BRETT FAVRE: Well... (pauses)

Q. Too close to call?
BRETT FAVRE: I want to win. The pause was more or less because I just want to play in these games, and if the records happen, they happen. I mean, I'm not getting ahead of myself.

If I play the rest of the year, things should take care of themselves. The most important thing, and I don't ever want to lose sight of it because I haven't up to this point, is leading this team to victory.

So I guess the answer is wins. That's the most important thing. The other things will take care of themselves. I just want to lead this team to victory.
With Brett Favre on the verge of making history, do you fear at all that the individual milestones might deflect what you're trying to accomplish as a team?
"I don't think it's something that at all deflects from our football team. I think it's something that you embrace when an individual achievement like that is on the forefront. It's something that we talked as a team this morning, but it won't deflect at all as far as our energy and our preparation for the game."

How much of the success the Packers are having can be traced to how you finished the season last year?
"I think you can say a big part of our success today is built off of the way we finished the season last year. With the four wins, that was something we used as a foundation to build off of as we went into our offseason program. We had tremendous energy and participation throughout the offseason program. It was something that we continued to build on as we went into training camp and so..

Favre Closes In On NFL Touchdown Record

On September 20, 1992, Green Bay Packers quarterback BRETT FAVRE relieved an injured DON MAJKOWSKI and engineered two touchdown drives in the fourth quarter to lead the club to a 24-23 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals at Green Bay's Lambeau Field. Included in that comeback was Favre's first career touchdown pass, a five-yard scoring strike to wide receiver STERLING SHARPE. Few knew then that it would be the first of a historic run.

Fifteen years later, Favre now sits in second place all-time with 417 touchdown passes, only three shy of Pro Football Hall of Famer DAN MARINO's record of 420.

"When I retired, I thought if one guy would get to 420 touchdowns, it would be Brett," says Marino. "I really didn't think anybody would get to it, but I knew that the one guy out there who could probably reach that level of 420 would be Brett Favre. Not only his ability as a great quarterback, but the durability he has, just the ability to play each..

Transcript - Steve Mariucci & Sterling Sharpe Interviewed About Brett Favre - Sept. 18

THE MODERATOR: Good afternoon, everybody. Thank you for joining us on this NFL Network conference call. We are pleased to be joined by Steve Mariucci, who is an analyst on NFL Network's NFL Game Day show. He was Brett Favre's quarterback coach in Green Bay from 1992 to '95. Brett led the NFL in passing yards those four seasons and ranked second in passing touchdowns.

Also we have Sterling Sharpe, co-host of NFL Network's Playbook show, which is on twice a week, Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m., and reaired each Sunday morning beginning at 11 a.m. Sterling played with Brett in his first three seasons in Green Bay from 1992 to '94. Had 300 catches, 41 touchdowns in that span. Sterling was the first ever player to have 300 catches in a three-season span, and his 41 touchdowns ranks second behind Antonio Freeman's 57, the most to a single receiver from Brett Favre.

Thank you for joining us, gentlemen. I would like to open it up to questions from the media..

Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - Sept. 17

OK, I'll start with the two significant injuries that we had in the game. Tony Palmer has a small bone fracture in his neck. He is en route from New York, excuse me Boston ... Where did we play at yesterday? New York. And actually I just got off the phone with him. We need to get him back here. Chad Clifton had the ankle sprain and did return. He's in there for treatment right now. We've got a bunch of guys banged up, but those are the two main ones we're focused on. With that I'll take your questions.

(Was Palmer a precautionary thing? How were his spirits when you talked to him today?)
Yeah, I just got off the phone with him. He's in very good spirits. I don't know how well you know Tony, but Tony, he has a dynamic personality. Just to hear him laugh on the phone tells you everything, that he's fine. He hurt it on the kickoff return, and it was classified as a stinger, so we sent him for a scan, just to be safe. And then we thought it would be best just ..

Mike McCarthy Post-Game Press Conference Transcript - Sept. 16

Okay, I'll start out with our injuries. Tony Palmer had a stinger and did not return. Chad Clifton had an ankle and did return.

(What was the difference for you today offensively, especially in the second half?)
Well, first I thought we got into a rhythm early. We wanted to come into the game and start fast in the first quarter, especially it's so important to do that on the road with the atmosphere we were coming into here in New York. I thought we got off to a good rhythm early, and we hit a patch there in the second quarter. Our protection, we had penetration in our run game and I felt like we did a good job of adjusting that for the most part, particularly in pass protection, and our guys played extremely well in the second half.

(Seems like Brett got better as the game went on, particularly on that 9-for-9 touchdown drive)
I thought he was very sharp. Once again, we cleaned up the pass protection in the second half and it..

Packers-Giants Week 2 Dope Sheet

PACKERS HEAD EAST TO TAKE ON GIANTS
-The Packers kick off the road portion of their 2007 schedule Sunday as they take on the New York Giants. The Giants - not the Packers - were awarded the NFC's final playoff bid last season after four tiebreakers and mere percentage points.

-Green Bay enters the contest 1-0 after a 16-13 victory Sunday over Philadelphia. The Giants fell to the Cowboys, 45-35, on Sunday night. After defeating former Green Bay assistant Andy Reid in Week 1, the team again will face a former Packers assistant coach in Tom Coughlin.

-One of the most impressive accomplishments of Mike McCarthy's first year as head coach was the way his club performed on the road. The Packers finished 5-3 away from home last season, recording the most road wins in franchise history for a coach in his first season.

-The Packers last played at Giants Stadium in 2002. The game was originally scheduled for a Week 2 showdown but was postponed until J..

(How's Al Harris doing?)
Al Harris. I'll tell you what, I'll just go through the injuries right here. Michael Montgomery, his existing injury of knee, he'll be out this week still. Jason Spitz has a calf strain, so we'll get more information on him the next two days, and I'll know more. He'll be limited participation for Wednesday. Al Harris has an elbow sprain. We're waiting back for his MRI, but he feels good. He's in here for treatment and so forth. We'll evaluate him during the course of the week. Carlyle Holiday had some knee swelling. I think he'll probably be limited participation this week. Greg Jennings has the hamstring, hopeful he can go. Tony Moll still with the stingers. We'll see where he's at on Wednesday. Vernand Morency, same thing. Vernand will go full participation Wednesday and then we'll see how he feels Thursday. Aaron Rouse with the hamstring. Hopeful that he can go this week. That's what we have.

Okay, I'll cover the injuries. Al Harris with a right elbow, he did return. Cullen Jenkins had a calf cramp, he returned. Jason Spitz had a calf cramp, he did not return. With that I'll take your questions please.

(Are you happy with the special teams?)
I'm very happy with the special teams and what a great start for a rookie kicker. I can't be more happy for Mason and our special teams units. It's nice to see particularly the younger guys that played here last year really step up. We talked about being vastly improved in that area and today was the first step in that.

(Were you afraid Bush might get called on interference on the punt?)
They're playing physical. I did not see a replay of the play. That's why you play the game. We'll tell them all the time in a gray area, go for it. I'm very happy with the outcome.
PACKERS FACE EAGLES IN 2007 OPENER
-Green Bay kicks off its 89th season in franchise history Sunday - its 87th as a member of the National Football League - by welcoming the Philadelphia Eagles to historic Lambeau Field.

-The Packers are 47-36-3 (.564) all-time in season openers but have lost three of their last four.

-Sunday marks the beginning of a year-long celebration honoring the 50th anniversary of the opening of Lambeau Field. The NFL's longest-tenured facility, only Boston's Fenway Park (1912) and Chicago's Wrigley Field (1914) have hosted their respective teams for a longer uninterrupted period.

-The Packers and Eagles have met five times over the past four seasons, including an NFC Divisional Playoff game in 2003, with Philadelphia earning the win in each of the five contests.

-By virtue of Green Bay's four-game winning streak to close the season, only defending Super Bowl champion Indianapolis (now winners of six straigh..

OK, I'll start with the official injury report. Friday, for participation, Mike Montgomery was out, and his status for the game will be out. Donald Driver was full participation today, his status will be probable for Sunday's contest. Ryan Grant, full participation, he'll be questionable. See how he is in the morning. Brandon Jackson, full participation, probable. Greg Jennings did not participate, he will be questionable for Sunday. Aaron Kampman, limited participation, he is probable.

JASON FOSTER OF NORTHLAND PINES HIGH SCHOOL NAMED
GREEN BAY PACKERS COACH OF THE WEEK

Jason Foster, of Northland Pines High School, has been named Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week, the organization announced Thursday.

"I give a lot of credit to (former Eagles head coach) Ken Beigel, who I coached under for four years before I became head football coach," Foster said. "I also learned a lot of things about what I do today from my head high school coach, Mike Dressler, so I give him a lot of credit for our success."

The Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season following their 12-0 victory over rival Three Lakes at Eagle River last Friday, and will host Lakeland tomorrow, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m.

"We have a great coaching staff and a great group of kids this year," Foster said. "They worked really hard in the off-season. We talked a lot about heart, discipline and commitment. The kids have really started to believe in that and turned the corner."

GAMEDAY PLAYER-FAN SYNERGY HIGHLIGHTED

Lambeau Field, traditionally an intimidating environment for visiting teams, this season will provide a new opportunity for fans to unite behind the Green and Gold with the debut of G-Force, an in-stadium program that will emphasize the electric gameday atmosphere the fans provide for the players.

G-Force refers to the electricity, the excitement and the anticipation players and fans feel at Lambeau Field. G-Force is the 72,000 passionate, screaming fans that intimidate the competition, and strive to make a difference on every play in every game.

"We're excited to provide the best fans in the NFL with a new gameday element they can rally behind," said Craig Benzel, Packers director of marketing and corporate sales. "While other teams around the league have supportive fans and use names such as the '12th Man,' we believe no other fans have the passion or dedication of Packers fans at Lambeau Field. That's what G-..

This weekend's home opener against the Philadelphia Eagles will mark the debut of the recently expanded Green Bay Packers Pro Shop.

With more than 2000 square feet of additional space, the Pro Shop will offer an improved shopping experience, particularly on game day when thousands of attending fans visit the store.

"We're excited to be able to offer this improved experience for our guests at the Pro Shop," said Jason Wied, Packers vice president of administration/corporate counsel. "By expanding the store and streamlining the checkout process, we will make the fans' visits more efficient and enjoyable."

The space being utilized is the former storage area located along the east wall of the Atrium on the south end of the store, behind the elevators near the Atrium entrance to the Pro Shop.

Brandon Jackson, limited participation because of a concussion. Tony Moll, neck, limited participation. Vernand Morency, limited participation with a knee. Aaron Rouse with his hamstring, limited participation.

(Looking at the season as a whole, do you view anything less than a playoff berth as a disappointment?)
I view every season that way. You want to get into the playoffs and win a world championship. I viewed every season that I've participated in this league that way.

(What have you seen from Brandon Jackson to make you comfortable with him as the starter?)

Home Team Challenge Fantasy Football Underway For 2007

Signup is underway for the third season of Home Team Challenge, an online fantasy football game offered by the Green Bay Packers and Time Warner Cable.

The program, free to participants, offers fantasy owners the chance to win Packers prizes on a weekly basis, a Packers grand prize of a road trip for two to a Packers away game in 2008 and an NFL grand prize of a trip for two to Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Ariz., in February.

More than 5,100 players participated through www.packers.com in 2006, the fourth-highest total among NFL teams.

Dion Deobald of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, won last year's away-game prize and will be traveling with a guest to the Packers-Cowboys game, Nov. 29, in Dallas.
Owners have the option to play on a one-week or season-long basis. Each week, owners will need to set lineups of eight positions, staying under a "salary cap" (lineups will not carry over each week). Values of players may change weekly, as well.

Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - Sept. 2

(How did Donald Driver look and what's his status?)
Donald is doing well. He went through rehab. He'll be limited for the remainder of the week. We'll make a decision on him at the end of the week.

(Are you optimistic he'll be able to play?)
Yeah, I feel the same way today as I did last week. He'll be limited starting Wednesday.

(How about Morency and Jackson?)
I'll have more information today on Mo. We wanted to get him through the practice segments that he went through today. Brandon went through the whole thing. He looks to be fine. Their status will be upgraded. Today was a big day for them.

(Morency didn't do team drills today?)
He was just limited today.

(How long will it take him to get back in football shape?)
That's a good question. When he does play I won't look for him to play every snap. We'll use him as a role player and be smart with him. I..

Ted Thompson Press Conference Transcript - Sept. 2

Thanks for coming. Just a brief explanation about why we didn't do this last night is because, number one, the waivers got to us about 8:30 or 9 o'clock last night, and we knew we'd be doing other things today, so we felt this would make a little bit more sense, to kill two birds with one stone so to speak. But I'll be glad to take questions.

(You only have two tight ends. You aren't going into the season with that, are you?)
Well, you never know, Mike. That's where we are right now. We feel very good about the two that we have. We think they've had excellent preseason camp and played very well in the games. You never know. We all kind of get caught up in saying this is the final, final 53, but there's always fluctuations, and whether we tweak our roster as we go forward this week or whether it happens over time, you never know.

(Are your backs hurt more than we realize, with having to go out and grab two more?)
Well, Noah was i..
