Packers Hall Of Fame Announces Frank M. Cowles Donation
posted 10/04/2007
Recently the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, Inc., received a major donation from the family of longtime Packers Board of Directors member Frank M. Cowles.
The donation included 76 items, many of which are very unique artifacts which significantly enhance the value and variety of the Hall of Fame archives. Some of the more prominent items included in the Cowles donation are now on display in the Packers Hall of Fame at Lambeau Field.
Items on display include a set of 1966 World Championship jeweled cuff links with a presentation note card from Bart Starr to Frank Cowles. Also featured in the Cowles exhibit is a handwritten letter to Cowles from Vince Lombardi and several Waterford crystal mementos presented to Cowles by the Packers.
F. Murphy Cowles, son of Frank M. Cowles, said that the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, "is where my father would have wanted these items to reside. They represent a lifetime association with the team."
Hall of Fame Director and Archivist Tom Murphy describes the donation as "one of the most extensive received by the Hall in recent years. It shows the true devotion of the Cowles family as fans of the Packers and as patrons of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame."
The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, Inc., is a non-profit corporation independent of the Green Bay Packers that guides the Hall as a historic national sports venue and educational resource to the Green Bay community and the state of Wisconsin. The Hall raises funds through its annual induction banquet, Golf Classic and other events to develop new exhibits and expand its archives. Historic memorabilia donated by individuals to the Hall may qualify as tax-deductible gifts.
Originally established in 1967 as a temporary display in the concourse of the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena, the Hall moved into its own facility in 1976 near Lambeau Field. In 2003, it was relocated to a spectacular new, 25,000-square foot facility in the Lambeau Field Atrium. The Hall of Fame is open on non-game days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hours may vary on game days and holidays. For more information, contact the Hall of Fame at 920/569-7512. |
