CBA-Related Questions & Answers

Q. When does the CBA expire should there be no extension to the agreement?

A. After the 2010 NFL season.

Q. Will there be a college draft in 2011?

A. Yes.

Q. What is the "Final League Year" in the current agreement?

A. The "Final League Year" is the term used in the CBA to refer to the last year of the agreement. Without a further extension of the CBA, the "Final League Year" would be the 2010 League Year.

Q. What are the differences between the "Final League Year" and any other "League Year?"

A. The principal differences are that in the "Final League Year," there is no salary cap and there are substantial additional restrictions on player free agency.

Q. Now that 2009 is the last capped year, are there rules that impact player contract negotiations and a club s salary cap planning?

A. Yes. Here are the key differences:

After the last game of the 2008 reg..

Aaron Kampman Press Conference Transcript - May 29

(How is your grandfather doing?)
He's getting better. Yeah, he is getting better.

(What happened to him?)
Well, the tornado came through and he thought it was getting done, and then it made its way up the stairs and it took him.

(What kind of injuries did he have?)
Just out of respect for him, he is getting better, and that's the big thing. For an 81-year-old man, he is a fighter.

(And this is on your dad's side of the family?)
My dad's side, yeah.

(Can you talk about your experience back home a little bit?)
Yeah, kind of the initial thing is shock obviously because it's a place where I grew up and it's hard to recognize the area. You imagine a skyline with houses and trees and landscape, and really all that is there is mangled trees and rubble. You can see some semblance...it is kind of like you put things in piles now, so the streets are clear and peopl..

Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - May 29

(How are the young guys picking up on things?)
I would say yesterday and today are really the most challenging days from a volume standpoint. Yesterday the emphasis was third down. Today the emphasis was red zone. That's a challenge really for our whole football team, and even moreso for the rookies. I thought yesterday's work was good. Today's was a little more sloppy than yesterday's, which is normal at this stage. But overall at practice, with the five days we've got in, I'm very pleased with the amount of quality work we've been able to accomplish. But we have a lot of work to do. We have a lot of work to do, especially the rookies.

(Does it surprise you that Aaron Kampman is here with his situation back home?)
I talked to Aaron throughout the process, and he definitely has his priorities in line, and I know he's going to speak to everyone here later. He was in communication during his time down there and his drive back. You could sa..

PACKERS AND AMERICAN FAMILY INSURANCE CAP CAMPAIGN RAISES $340,000 FOR SUPPORT OF SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN, VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES

The Green Bay Packers and American Family Insurance Thursday announced 10 organizations that will receive funds raised in last year's charity cap campaign, an effort to raise money to support service men and women, veterans and their families.

More than 68,000 of the stone-washed black caps have been sold, raising over $340,000 for distribution to the groups which focus on health care needs, and family support and assistance. This is the third cap campaign for the two organizations, raising more than $1.8 million for Wisconsin charities. The previous two campaigns, featuring pink and red Packers caps, supported charities fighting breast cancer and heart disease.

"We are very honored to present these funds to outstanding organizations performing great deeds in Wisconsin," Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy said in making ..

Packers Announce 2008 Training Camp Schedule

**

An unusual preseason slate has created a rather jam-packed training camp schedule for the Green Bay Packers in 2008.

The camp schedule, announced Thursday by Head Coach Mike McCarthy, begins on Monday, July 28, with two practices (8:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.).

The late start is due to the NFL rule that does not allow teams to report for training camp more than 15 days prior to their first preseason game. Because the Packers open the preseason on Monday Night Football, Aug. 11 against Cincinnati, the reporting date is Sunday, July 27, with the first workouts the following day.

The Monday night preseason opener also has forced Green Bay to pack all four preseason contests into a span of 18 days. That leaves only four days between games 1 and 2, and five days each between games 2 and..

(Why didn't you practice outside today?)
We're going to stay inside throughout the OTAs. It just gives us a constant practice environment, just from things that work a little better for us from a mechanic standpoint. We're not going to go out on the grass until training camp like we did last year.

(Are the fields not ready yet?)
They could be but it's just not in the best interest in going on the grass fields right now, not when there are all of those other things involved in getting those fields ready.

(So you'll be inside for the mini-camp as well?)
We'll be inside, yes. You guys don't like it inside? It was nice out there today.

(What is the nature of Justin Harrell's injury?)

TICKETS GO ON SALE JUNE 14

The Green Bay Packers Monday announced that 'Packers Family Night, Presented by FOX 11,' will take place Sunday evening, Aug. 3.

'Family Night,' now in its eighth year, will feature an intra-squad scrimmage between the Packers' offense and defense. Evening activities get underway in the stadium at 5:30 p.m., followed by on-field football drills at 6:30 and the scrimmage at approximately 7:30.

This year's edition lands on a Sunday night for the first time. With the team opening the preseason on a Monday night (Aug. 11), the entire training camp schedule had to be adjusted, beginning with the first practice, Monday, July 28.

"We're very excited to be preparing for 'Packers Family Night,' " said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. "It's another one of the great training camp traditions of the Green Bay Packers. Even with the change, it promises to be another memorable night for our fans, and I'm looking forward to see..

WISCONSIN MAN ILLEGALLY SELLING TICKETS SHUT DOWN

A former Wisconsin man illegally selling Green Bay Packers Tickets on the Internet as www.lambeau-tickets.com has agreed to comply with an order issued by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).

In addition to not using the website, Ben C. Huettl agreed not to sell any tickets or receive payment for the tickets unless he has the tickets in his possession and is free to sell without encumbrance at the time of sale or payment.

The order disclosed that Huettl "misrepresents he had tickets available and will deliver the tickets several weeks before game time, when in fact he has no tickets available and is unable to know when he will have tickets to deliver."

More than 20 Packers fans in Wisconsin and other states complained to DATCP about Huettle. The state agency was successful in getting refunds for all of them.

Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - May 4

(How did the last three days go and did you get accomplished what you wanted to?)
I'll say this about the mini-camp, actually Larry (McCarren) and I were talking about this earlier, ... comparing it to last year, which is the only other rookie mini-camp that I've been a part of, it was significantly better, just as far as the overall group. We had some more players this year than we had last year, and you could just see the progression of practices, how they improved from Friday to Sunday. I'm just very pleased with how the whole weekend went, and just like I told the players when we broke, I was very impressed with the quality of work we were able to get done this weekend.

(More and more teams are going to this format, bringing in the rookies and tryout guys first. Do you see this as a trend for the future?)
I don't follow it that much as far as what the other teams are doing, but just in my experience of doing it this way and the other..

Mike McCarthy Press Conference Transcript - May 2

(Rookies say the speed of the game is the biggest adjustment. Is that a mental thing?)
I think it's both physical and mental. Everybody can run at this level, so that's the first thing, I would classify that as physical. And the second part of it is the anticipation. If you look at the quarterback position just playing against our defense, they won all the bump-and-run. It's a challenge, but it prepares them in my opinion so much better when you play zone teams and things like that. But I think it's clearly a mental and physical adjustment.

(Why do you like this format, to bring the rookies in first?)
I think it falls under the area of time management. In my experience, when you go through all the administrative things you need to, it's usually the first night of training camp, and 90 percent of your football team has already been here. So what happens is the pace of all the little things that are important, it's rapid, and the key guys ..
