Packers And Verizon Wireless Team Up To Provide A Hopeline For Domestic Violence Victims
posted 10/14/2008
Wireless Phone Drive to be Held at Sunday's Game against Indianapolis
The Green Bay Packers and Verizon Wireless are teaming up Sunday to help curb domestic violence in Wisconsin. Fans attending the Packers-Colts game are invited to donate no-longer-used wireless handsets and accessories from any wireless provider to benefit victims of domestic violence through the Verizon Wireless HopeLine(r) program.
Volunteers will be collecting donated phones and equipment at each of the five Lambeau Field gates from 1 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Through its award-winning HopeLine program, Verizon Wireless turns unused wireless phones into support for victims of domestic violence, including those in Wisconsin. Wireless phones, batteries and other accessories are collected at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores nationwide and in special collections throughout the year. The phones are either refurbished for reuse or recycled in an environmentally sound way.
Since 2001, HopeLine's national phone recycling and reuse program has collected more than 5.3 million wireless phones, awarded more than $5.6 million in cash grants to domestic violence organizations throughout the country and by the end of this year, will have donated more than 80,000 HopeLine phones with 240 million minutes of airtime to victims, survivors and domestic violence organizations.
Fans not attending Sunday's game can still participate in the phone drive by donating their no-longer-used phones at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store at any time. Store locations can be found online at www.verizonwireless.com.
