Packers And Sargento Together Raise $59,500 To Fight Hunger In 2008

The Green Bay Packers and Sargento this season raised $59,500 for "Touchdowns for Charity," a program that raises money for the Wisconsin Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee County and Paul's Pantry in Green Bay. The two organizations completed their sixth season teaming together to support the effort.

For each touchdown scored by the Packers during the 2008 season, Sargento donated $1,000 to the Hunger Task Force, for a total of $48,000 on 48 TDs. This season Sargento also donated $500 to Paul's Pantry for every touchdown scored by a wide receiver and tight end, for a total of $11,500 on 23 TDs scored by the two positions.

Since partnering six years ago, Sargento - the official cheese of the Green Bay Packers and Lambeau Field - has contributed a total of $422,500 to the two causes.

He's probably three or four weeks away. Korey Hall had the knee sprain, but he should be fine in a couple weeks. Justin Harrell, they're re-doing the studies on his lower back, and we'll continue to evaluate that as we move forward. Kenny Pettway is doing very well with his rehab on his knee. Mark Tauscher will probably have surgery in probably 10 to 14 days. Scott Wells will have postseason shoulder surgery, and Chad Clifton will have a couple surgeries. That's our medical report.

The Green Bay Packers hold the ninth pick in the 2009 National Football League Draft on April 25-26. The order of the 2009 Draft was announced Monday by the NFL.

The Detroit Lions will make the first selection, followed by the St. Louis Rams picking second and the Kansas City Chiefs third.

Draft-order ties are resolved by the cumulative record of each team's opponents. The team with the weaker opponents receives drafting priority.

Within a tied segment, non-playoff clubs are given priority over playoff clubs. Priority of playoff clubs within a tied segment will be based on their advancement in the playoffs, but they will not drop out of their tied segment unless they participate in the Super Bowl. Shovelers Needed Tuesday Morning For Lambeau Field Snow Removal

The area's recent snowfalls have left Lambeau Field in the need of snow removal Tuesday morning in preparation for this weekend's Packers-Lions game.

As many as 350 helpers are sought to shovel out the stadium. All who are interested are asked to report to the Mills Fleet Farm Gate on Lambeau Field's west side, beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, and continuing throughout the day.

The Packers will provide shovels to all who come to help.

Shovelers need to be at least 15 years old and will receive $8 per hour, with payment to be made immediately upon completion of their work.

Twelve Green Bay area schools collected a total of 17,119 pounds of food for this year's Packers Women's Association Food Drive. More than 9,400 total students participated.

To recognize the students and congratulate them for their efforts, two schools received visits from Packers players.

Notre Dame Elementary & Middle School, De Pere, took first place honors among the schools involved, collecting nearly 13 pounds of food per student. Notre Dame also captured top honors in 2003, '04, '06 and '07. Wide receivers James Jones and Jordy Nelson addressed students Wednesday, Dec. 17, at an all-school assembly.

Westwood Elementary School, De Pere, took second place honors for the second consecutive year, collecting 7.1 pounds per student. Offensive linemen Daryn Colledge and Scott Wells will visit the school Tuesday, Dec. 23.

The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame Inc. announced Wednesday that it will induct former wide receiver Antonio Freeman and former running back Dorsey Levens at the 39th Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, to be held the evening of July 18, 2009, in the Lambeau Field Atrium.

Freeman played eight seasons for the Packers (1995-2001, 03), appearing in 116 games, with 90 starts. Among the club's most prolific receivers, he ranks sixth on the club's all-time list in both receptions (431) and yards (6,651), and third in touchdown receptions (57). He earned consensus All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl selection in 1998 after posting 1,424 yards to lead the NFL.

He authored numerous big-game performances over his career, including a three-reception, 105-yard outing in Super Bowl XXXI which included a then-Super Bowl record 81-yard TD reception, and a nine-catch, 126-yard, two-TD game in Super Bowl XXXII. Hale, who is in the midst of his 46th season as a beer vendor in Lambeau Field's section 119, was selected by fans from 10 finalists during a voting period that closed Nov. 25. Thousands of votes were cast from throughout the United States and countries around the world.

The 70-year-old Hale was nominated by Dave O'Brien, who often sits in section 119 and has admired Hale's work for years.

Tauscher started all 13 games at right tackle this season.

McCaskill, a 6-foot-4, 315-pound first-year player, was signed from the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad. He originally signed with the Buffalo Bills in July 2007 as a non-drafted free agent from Hampton and spent the last season on the Bills' practice squad.

Packers wide receiver Donald Driver will sign copies of his book, Quickie Makes the Team, Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Packers Pro Shop.

Quickie Makes the Team, Driver's first foray into writing, was conceived and written by Driver and inspired by his own bedtime storytelling to his children, Cristian and Christina. It also has inspirational comments from Driver to children.

With the forecast calling for snowfall accumulation overnight, the Packers again are putting out the "help wanted" call to help with snow removal from Lambeau Field Saturday morning, Dec. 6.

Interested shovelers are asked to report to the Mills Fleet Farm Gate on Lambeau Field's west side, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. The amount of snowfall will dictate how many shovelers will be utilized. In addition to shoveling, work also may include spreading ice-melt in various stadium areas.

The Packers will provide shovels to all who come to help.

Shovelers need to be at least 15 years old and will receive $8 per hour, with payment to be made immediately upon completion of their work.

Free Family-Themed Event Takes Place from 5-7 P.M.

Thousands of lights have been set on the plaza's recently erected holiday tree and the Lambeau Field Atrium will be transformed into a festive family atmosphere for Saturday's third annual Festival of Lights at Lambeau Field.

The Green Bay Packers have placed CB Pat Lee on injured reserve with a knee injury and signed LB Spencer Havner to the active roster. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the transactions Friday.

Lee, one of three rookie draft picks chosen in the second round, saw action in five games this season.

Havner, a 6-foot-3, 248-pound first-year player, has spent part of the past three seasons on the Packers' practice squad. He will wear No. 53.

Jennings Is Hall Of Fame's Featured Player Of The Week For Week 13

For his performance vs. the Carolina Panthers, wide receiver Greg Jennings was chosen as the Packers Hall of Fame Featured Player of the Week. The weekly exhibit contains memorabilia from the game against the Panthers, including a football autographed by Jennings.

Jennings finished with a team-best eight receptions for 91 yards and a TD in the game, giving him 64 catches for 1,047 yards and seven scores. It marked his first career 1,000-yard season. He had come up 80 yards short of 1,000 last season, when he missed the first two games of the year with an ankle injury and then sat out the regular-season finale.

Each Monday (or in the case of a Monday night game, Tuesday), new items from the previous day's game will be placed in the display to be viewed by visitors to the Hall. Included among the items will be the autographed game ball, which at the end of the week will be awarded randomly to a Hall of Fame visitor who signed up for the free drawing.

A portion of the visitors' tickets were not utilized by the Texans, according to Mark Wagner, the Packers' director of ticket operations.

Jeremy did a nice job today. I thought he handled the snaps clean. He definitely has some power in his leg, did a good job with the directional kicking. He had a good day's work.

It's definitely a challenge. I think his background helps him based on where he played college and his time in professional football. He just needs to go out and kick to the proper direction. He's been impressive through his workout, and that's why he's here. I thought he got off to a good start today.

The Green Bay Packers have signed P Jeremy Kapinos to the active roster and signed WR Lorne Sam to the practice squad. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the transactions Wednesday.

Kapinos, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound first-year player, spent time with the New York Jets in 2007. An All-America selection at Penn State, he will wear No. 7.

Sam, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound rookie, spent time this year with the Denver Broncos. He will wear No. 18.

'Toys For Tots' Collection At Lambeau Field Prior To Sunday's Game

Alums Ezra Johnson and Dave Robinson at Lambeau this Weekend

The yearly 'Toys for Tots' campaign will take place prior to Sunday's game vs. the Houston Texans.

Fans attending the contest are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys which will be distributed by the Salvation Army to children in need in the Green Bay area this holiday season. Monetary donations also will be accepted.

Members of the U.S. Marine Corps will be present at all gates leading into Lambeau Field, beginning at 8:30 a.m., to assist in collecting toys and monetary donations.

Totals collected will be announced during the game's second half.

He's coming along. Anytime you suffer a concussion there's procedures the player needs to go through, a series of testing. So he's passed the first segment of testing, and we'll move forward as far as his conditioning and then he has to pass that segment before we can clear him to practice.

I'm still hoping that he'll be there for Sunday. Our goal, just talking to Pat McKenzie this morning, would be for him to practice on Friday.

Shovelers Needed Thursday Morning For Lambeau Field Snow Removal

The Green Bay Packers are putting out the "help wanted" call to help with snow removal from Lambeau Field.

Ted Eisenreich, the Packers' director of facility operations, is seeking helpers - as many as 300 - to shovel out Lambeau Field tomorrow, Dec. 4, in preparation for Sunday's game vs. the Houston Texans.

He asks all who might be interested in assisting to report to the Mills Fleet Farm Gate on Lambeau Field's west side, beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday and continuing throughout the day.

The Packers will provide shovels to all who come to help.

Shovelers need to be at least 15 years old and will receive $8 per hour, with payment to be made immediately upon completion of their work, Eisenreich said.

Jerry Sinz, of Edgar High School, has been named Wisconsin Football Coaches Association/Green Bay Packers Coach of the Year, the organizations announced Tuesday.

The WFCA also announced the release of its All-State team and honorable mention selections for the 2008 season.

Sinz recently completed his 34th season as head coach of the Edgar football program. His Wildcat team finished with a record of 13-1 record in 2008, winning a Marawood Conference title in what was Sinz's 33rd consecutive winning season. In 2008, Sinz turned in the 10th undefeated regular season of his career, and led Edgar to the WIAA State Playoffs for the 21st time during his tenure at the school.

"We had a very successful and exiting season," said Sinz. "We had great leadership from our senior class, and we're looking forward to a fine season next year from our returning players."

Free Family-Themed Event Set For Saturday, Dec. 6

The tree for the third annual Festival of Lights at Lambeau Field has been located on Green Bay's west side and will be harvested Tuesday, Dec. 2.

The 35-foot tree, located at 2088 Shady Lane, was submitted by Arline Rousseau. The process of harvesting the tree will begin at approximately 11 a.m. After the tree is loaded for transport, it then will be taken to Lambeau Field with the assistance of a police escort due to the size of the vehicle. The tree also will be erected Tuesday and decorated through the week.

Rousseau, in recognition of providing the tree for the event, will receive four tickets to the Packers-Lions game, Dec. 28.

The Green Bay Packers have released P Derrick Frost, placed LB Nick Barnett and DE Kenny Pettway on injured reserve with knee injuries and signed DT Alfred Malone and CB Joe Porter from the practice squad. Barnett started nine games for the Packers. He tallied 68 tackles (49 solos), a forced fumble and two passes defensed.

Pettway appeared in eight games and tallied five special teams tackles.

Malone, a 6-foot-4, 312-pound first-year player from Troy, will wear No. 98. Porter, a 5-foot-10, 203-pound first-year player from Rutgers, will wear No. 40.

Scott had a concussion in the game. I anticipate that he'll probably be out most of the week. It will be a challenge for him to be ready to play this week.

My understanding is it happened I think on the second down play of the series before, just after watching the film and seeing when he did bang his head. But the communication I had with Scott after the fumble, I did not notice it, that he was in that state. Obviously no one noticed it before that or he would not have been out there.
