The Green Bay Packers were among 15 teams to receive compensatory draft choices from the NFL Tuesday, being awarded one sixth-round pick and three seventh-round picks for a total of four.

The picks are compensation for the Packers' losses in free agency last year. Under the terms of the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, a team losing more or better free agents than it acquires in a year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors.

Last year the Packers lost to free agency wide receivers Corey Bradford and Bill Schroeder, safety Billy Jenkins, return man Allen Rossum and offensive lineman Barry Stokes. Joe Johnson was the only free agent signee who qualified as a compensatory free agent in return.

A total of 32 compensatory draft picks were awarded by the league this year. Only the Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants and St. Louis Rams received as many compensatory picks as the Packers.

The Packers' new sixth-round selection is the 212th overall draft choice. Their seventh-round selections come as overall picks Nos. 253, 256 and 257.

Although later picks, if last year's draft is any indication, the Packers can put those selections to good use.

With only six draft choices last year, the Packers signed running back Tony Fisher, offensive tackle Kevin Barry and linebacker Marcus Wilkins as undrafted free agents after the fact.

With Tuesday's addition of the four compensatory picks, the Packers now have 11 draft choices overall in 2003, with one each in the first, third, fourth and fifth rounds, three in the sixth round and four in the seventh.

The NFL Draft is April 26 and 27.
