The Green Bay Packers will be playing on Thanksgiving Day once again in 2007.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced on Monday at the annual owners' meetings in Phoenix that the Packers would play the Lions at Detroit's Ford Field at 11:30 a.m. (CT) on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007. The game will be nationally televised on FOX.

The rest of the team's schedule will be completed and released in April.

"I think it's very exciting," Packers President and Chief Operating Officer John Jones said. "The Packers will be on the national stage on Thanksgiving Day. That game attracts an awful lot of interest, and having a traditional rival like the Lions, it's a great showcase for both teams.

"I think anytime the Packers can be in that national spotlight, we are really the team all of America is looking at. That's a big positive for Green Bay and we welcome the opportunity."

The Packers last played on Thanksgiving in 2003, also in Detroit.

That game, a 22-14 loss, dropped the Packers' all-time record on Thanksgiving to 11-18-2, including 5-11-1 in Detroit. The Packers and Lions played every Thanksgiving in Detroit for 13 straight seasons, from 1951 through 1963. The other meetings occurred in 1984, 1986, 2001 and 2003.

Prior to 2003, the Packers won the previous two meetings by scores of 44-40 ('86) and 29-27 ('01).

The Packers' only other Thanksgiving Day games in the past half-century have been at Dallas, in 1970 and 1994.

The other two games on Thanksgiving this year have the New York Jets playing at the Dallas Cowboys on CBS (3:15 p.m. CT) and the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts at the Atlanta Falcons on NFL Network (7:15 p.m. CT).

The league also announced the slate of nationally televised games during the opening week of the regular season.

On Thursday, Sept. 6, the New Orleans Saints will kick off the season at Indianapolis in prime time on NBC (7:30 p.m. CT). On Sunday, Sept. 9, the national late-afternoon doubleheader game pits the NFC champion Chicago Bears at the San Diego Chargers on FOX (3:15 p.m. CT) while the prime-time game on NBC will be the New York Giants at Dallas (7:15 p.m. CT). The Monday night doubleheader for the opening week features the Baltimore Ravens at the Cincinnati Bengals (6 p.m. CT) and the Arizona Cardinals at the San Francisco 49ers (9:15 p.m. CT), both on ESPN.

The full league schedule for 2007 will be completed and released in April.
