| Five Packers Open NFL Europa Season This Weekend
posted 04/13/2007 Five Green Bay Packers will open their NFL Europa season this weekend, with all of their games being televised by the NFL Network. The Packers allocated five players to NFL Europa this spring, and they are dispersed among four of the six overseas teams. Wide receiver Carlton Brewster and linebacker Tim Goodwell are teammates with the Berlin Thunder, while cornerback Antonio Malone plays for the Rhein Fire. Safety Alvin Nnabuife is with the Cologne Centurions and offensive lineman Adam Stenavich is with the Amsterdam Admirals. "NFL Europa is an exciting opportunity for young football players," says NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. "It is a place for them to hone their skills, develop their game and experience another culture." NFL Europa clubs play a 10-game regular-season schedule beginning Saturday and concluding on Sunday, June 17. The top two teams in the standings will play for the league championship in Yello Strom World Bowl XV on Saturday, June 23, at Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt, Germany. NFL Network will be the television home of NFL Europa, broadcasting all 30 regular-season games (some live and some tape-delayed), culminating with a live broadcast of the World Bowl. This Saturday, Nnabuife's game for Cologne against the Hamburg Sea Devils will be broadcast live at noon (Central Time), while Stenavich's game for Amsterdam against the Frankfurt Galaxy will follow at 3 p.m. (CT). The game between Brewster and Goodwell's Berlin team against Malone's Rhine squad will be shown on Sunday at 10 p.m. (CT). |
