Rookie wide receiver Jordy Nelson is going through his first training camp in the NFL, and Packers.com will check in with him periodically the next few weeks to get his thoughts and experiences in this training camp diary.

Nelson was a consensus All-America selection at Kansas State, and was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award in 2007. He posted school records as a senior with 122 receptions for 1,606 yards after beginning his career with the Wildcats as a walk-on safety.

I didn't really feel that nervous on Sunday for the Family Night scrimmage because it was more of a practice-type deal, but I think there will obviously be some nerves when we go out there Monday and play a real game. I haven't really thought about Monday night that much. We've been progressing through the playbook, and to be honest with you, it seems like it has gotten here kind of faster than I thought it would. We haven't really started talking about the game yet, so not too many of my thoughts are going toward it.

My brother and my sister and some other friends are coming up for the game, so they'll be here to experience it for the first time, and it should be a lot of fun. Being from a small town (Riley, Kan.) like I was, I just know there will be a lot of people watching back home, and hopefully I can go out and perform to my best.

I think I am improving, but I've just got to continue to keep working. It's a grind, but you've just got to continue to get better so you can progress through this training camp and make the plays during the game.

I haven't had much time to do anything other than football. It's football, and if you've got any off time, you want to rest because you'll need it when it comes back to football. I haven't seen much of the city yet, but hopefully at some point in time I'll get out. I got to see some of it when we were up here for OTAs and mini-camps, but right now it's 100 percent football.

The fans here have been great. Being able to be a part of the great tradition of riding the kids' bikes and seeing the support out there every day for practice, it shows what kind of community it is around this organization and it makes it a lot of fun.
