Rookie wide receiver Jordy Nelson is going through his first training camp in the NFL, and Packers.com will check in with him periodically the next few weeks to get his thoughts and experiences in this training camp diary.

Nelson was a consensus All-America selection at Kansas State, and was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award in 2007. He posted school records as a senior with 122 receptions for 1,606 yards after beginning his career with the Wildcats as a walk-on safety.

On Monday night vs. Cincinnati, Nelson caught two passes for 35 yards, and returned four punts for 31 yards in his NFL debut.

It was good to finally get out on the field and play a game to get a feel for kind of how things are going to go during the season. It's a little different than practice, but it was a good first game. I think with the Family Night, that showed us the kind of fans that we have so I wasn't surprised by the atmosphere. I think we practice at a very high pace so that prepared us for the game speed as well.

It wasn't too bad waiting around for the game. I was able to get out on the field beforehand to get some of the nerves out and throw the ball around. I had to do enough thinking about the plays and what I had to do to perform well, so that kept my mind off of the nerves.

I think I did all right in the game. There are obviously areas for me to improve in, but I thought for the first game things went pretty well. It gives you a foundation and you've just got to go up from there. It was good to get the ball in my hands and get back to playing football again. It was fun to get the opportunity to make a play and play against somebody else besides teammates.

I am excited to get a chance to work as a return man too. Obviously it's another way to get on the field, and that's what I am looking to do is get out there and help the team win.

I had some family that came up for a couple of days so I saw them before the game and they were here for pretty much the whole day after. It was my sister and her boyfriend, my brother and his girlfriend, and then a buddy of mine came too.

This week I have just been focusing on continuing to be assignment sound and progress in my routes. I need to keep improving in my route running and make them a little more precise.

I am getting more and more comfortable every day. With the practices and the amount of time we are spending with the quarterbacks and just continuing to go through the playbook, you just get more comfortable. It's been good and hopefully it continues.

We finally get to move out of the dorms this weekend and go home. It's not a bad thing. I get to go home and sleep in a big, old comfortable bed. My wife and I are renting a duplex. I've got it all set up and everything, so it's been sitting there waiting for me. Brian (Brohm) and I might have to spend some extra time on the side since we won't be roommates anymore (laughing).
