Quarterback is one of the most difficult positions to make the transition from the college ranks to the NFL.- Few quarterbacks see time as a rookie, including the Packers' Aaron Rodgers, who did not become the starter until his fourth season.
- Thanks to the success of rookies starters in 2008, a number of teams including the New York Jets (Mark Sanchez) and Detroit (Matthew Stafford) are putting rookies under center.
- In addition to Stafford (No. 1) and Sanchez (No. 5), the only other quarterback selected in the first round was Josh Freeman (No. 17) by Tampa Bay.
- During Tampa Bay's bye week, it was announced by head coach Raheem Morris that Freeman would get his first career start against Green Bay.
- Since 1980, four quarterbacks have made their first career start in the NFL against Green Bay, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. None of the four have been able to secure wins in the game.
- In 1985, New Orleans' Bobby Hebert made his first career start on Nov. 17 against the Packers in Milwaukee, a 38-14 Green Bay win.
- Dallas' Steve Walsh made his first NFL start against the Packers on Oct. 8, 1989, at Lambeau Field. Green Bay won 31-13.
- In 2002, Joey Harrington took over the starting role in Week 3 against the Packers in Detroit. Harrington is the only member of the group to have his start come at home, which will be the case Sunday in Tampa for Freeman. Harrington and the Lions fell to Green Bay 37-31.
- In 2006, Tarvaris Jackson got his first start in a Week 16 primetime game at Lambeau Field. Minnesota lost to Green Bay 9-7.
- Freeman won't have an easy task, going against a unit tied for fourth in total defense and one that has excelled at takeaways.
