I had not written my lede. That is the honest-to-God truth. When the Lions were flagged for the facemask penalty, I knew the ball would be moved far enough forward for Aaron Rodgers to reach the end zone. I was in the media interview room, watching the game on television, which is on delay. I've come to listen for the crowd reaction, because the play is over before I see it happen on TV. I heard a faint groan, and I said to a man sitting next to me, "They scored!" He said, "No way." And then we saw it. I like covering the endings of games this way. It's very memorable. Memories make us rich.

Vic, the talking heads have a lot of opinions about the facemask call. Given the position of the ref, I don't think he could have called it any differently. Do you think he would make the same call if he was positioned to the side of the play?
I haven't had a chance, yet, to view the play a million times and blame the officials for one of the most dramatic finishes I've ever covered and a memory I will cherish until the day I die. I'll do that later this morning, after I get a couple of hours of sleep. I'll be happy to give my opinion on the call in my chat at one o'clock.

They're favorites, but I don't know for what they are favorites. I'm just sure they are favorites. I trust fate to provide the answer. I can wait and not be tired by waiting.

When Coach McCarthy was asked why Lacy's playing time was limited, Coach McCarthy said Lacy "didn't have a great week." The Packers need Lacy to have a great week.

I read some comments after the game, questioning why Calvin Johnson wasn't playing defense on that last play. What's the logic of that? Do it just because he's tall?
Because he's tall and he can catch. If defensive backs could catch they'd be wide receivers. I expressed the same Calvin Johnson opinion to Wayne Larrivee on the way home last night. As the ball is tumbling toward the end zone on that type of play, the ball skills advantage is decidedly in the offense's favor. What I found out later is Coach Caldwell was expecting a lateral play, not a Hail Mary, which would explain why Johnson wasn't in the game.
