The Green Bay Packers signed LB Tipa Galeai from the practice squad to the active roster, placed LB Whitney Mercilus on injured reserve, signed LB La'Darius Hamilton and RB Kerrith Whyte to the practice squad and released DL Auzoyah Alufohai (Ah-ZOY-ah Ah-LOOF-oh-hai) from the practice squad. (tee-puh nah-lee-eye) Galeai originally signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Utah State in 2020 and has been on Green Bay's practice squad over the past two seasons, appearing in one game last season as a gameday elevation.
Hamilton, a 6-2, 261-pound, first-year player out of the University of North Texas, rejoins the Packers. He was signed by Green Bay off of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad on Sept. 17 and appeared in three games for the Packers before being released on Nov. 13. Hamilton originally signed with the Dallas Cowboys in May 2020. He spent his rookie season on the practice squad of the Cowboys before being claimed off of waivers by the Buccaneers in May 2021. Hamilton will wear No. 54 for the Packers.
Whyte, a 5-10, 204-pound, second-year player out of Florida Atlantic University, was originally selected by the Chicago Bears in the seventh round (No. 222 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he was signed off the Bears' practice squad by the Pittsburgh Steelers and went on to appear in six games in 2019, rushing 24 times for 122 yards (5.1 avg.) and catching a pass for 9 yards. After being released by the Steelers following the 2020 training camp, Whyte went on to spend time last season on the Detroit Lions' practice squad and then was with the Buffalo Bills during the 2021 training camp and had a stint on the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice squad earlier this season. He will wear No. 34 for the Packers.
