Packers sign S Eddie Pleasant, release LB Korey Toomer 

FB Malcolm Johnson signed to practice squad


The Green Bay Packers signed S Eddie Pleasant, released LB Korey Toomer, signed FB Malcolm Johnson to the practice squad and placed G Anthony Coyle on the practice squad; injured list. The transactions were announced Wednesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

Pleasant (5-10, 210) originally signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted rookie free agent out of University of Oregon in 2012. In six seasons with the Texans (2012-17), he played in 78 regular-season games with one start, recording 86 tackles (67 solo), four QB hits, two tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, three interceptions, 17 passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery on defense. Pleasant added 30 tackles on special teams. He also appeared in five postseason contests for Houston. In 2018, Pleasant was in training camp with the New England Patriots and spent a short time during the regular season with the Arizona Cardinals, appearing in one game. He will wear No. 35 for the Packers.

Johnson, a 6-foot-1, 231-pound third-year player out of Mississippi State, was originally selected in the sixth round (No. 195 overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He played in 19 games with six starts in two seasons with the Browns (2015-16), hauling in nine receptions for 59 yards (6.6 avg.) and carrying the ball once for a gain of 2 yards. After being released by the Browns on Oct. 24, 2016, Johnson spent some time on the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad. In 2018, he was with the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason and training camp. Johnson played tight end in college, starting 23 of 45 games played, before converting to fullback in the NFL. He will wear No. 46 for the Packers.
