Packers, Verizon Wireless Connect For Domestic Violence Prevention In Wisconsin

Verizon Wireless Donates $25 to Fight Domestic Violence for Every Packers' Point Scored

In an effort to help fight domestic violence in Wisconsin, Verizon Wireless is once again teaming up with the Green Bay Packers to provide protection where it is needed most-off the field.

Through its "Protection is the Name of the Game" program, Verizon Wireless will donate $25 to a designated domestic violence organization in Wisconsin for each point scored by the Green Bay Packers during the 2006-07 National Football League regular season. Since its inception in 2001, the program has raised more than $50,000 for domestic violence shelters and organizations in Wisconsin.

Verizon Wireless will make donations to the following Wisconsin organizations during this Packers' season: ASHA Family Services (Milwaukee); The Women's Center (Waukesha); Harbor House (Appleton); Sojourner Truth House (Milwaukee); Women's Resource Center (Racine); UNIDOS Against Domestic Violence (Madison); Family Violence Center (Green Bay); Advocates of Ozaukee County (Saukville); Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence (Madison); Milwaukee Women's Center; YWCA Alternatives to Domestic Violence (Janesville); Women's Horizons (Kenosha); the Task Force on Family Violence (Milwaukee), Domestic Intervention Abuse Services (Madison) and Friends of Abused Families (West Bend).

"Protection is the Name of the Game" is part of Verizon Wireless' award-winning HopeLine(r) program, which focuses primarily on preventing domestic violence and increasing awareness of this national issue. Through the program, wireless phones and accessories from any wireless service provider are collected. Most donated phones and equipment are refurbished and sold, with proceeds going to support domestic violence awareness and prevention programs. Any remaining phones are recycled in an environmentally safe way.

"Domestic violence is a very real threat to women and families across Wisconsin and the country," said T.J. Fox, president-Wisconsin/Illinois Region, Verizon Wireless. "We thank the Green Bay Packers for taking a stand with us against domestic violence and hope that as a team, we can raise awareness of this national epidemic, provide support to those affected by it and ultimately help put an end to it."
