Quarterback BRETT FAVRE of the Green Bay Packers and running back JUSTIN FARGAS of the Oakland Raiders are the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week for games played on September 30 - October 1, the NFL announced Thursday.
Green Bay's BRETT FAVRE completed 32 of 45 passes for 344 yards and recorded two touchdowns in the Packers' 23 - 16 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Favre's first-quarter touchdown was his 421st which set the all-time mark for touchdown passes.
Oakland's JUSTIN FARGAS carried the ball 22 times for 179 yards including a long 48-yard run in the Raiders' 35 - 17 win over the Miami Dolphins. Fargas helped the Raiders gain 369 total yards.
Favre and Fargas were selected from among finalists in air and ground categories. The other FedEx Express NFL Player of the Week finalists were quarterbacks JOEY HARRINGTON of the Atlanta Falcons and TONY ROMO of the Dallas Cowboys, while running backs JOSEPH ADDAI of the Indianapolis Colts and SAMMY MORRIS of the New England Patriots were the other finalists for the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week.
Fans voted for more than their favorite players. The weekly FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Awards are also a win for the local community. Along with the player awards, FedEx is awarding Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Foundation and Children's Hospital and Research Center at Oakland, the children's hospitals in each winning market, a check for $5,000.
The children's hospitals in the two season-long winner's markets, announced at Super Bowl XLII in Arizona, will be awarded $25,000 each. That means that FedEx will deliver nearly $250,000 to local children's hospitals around the country in recognition of the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Award winners.
