Quarterback BRETT FAVRE of the Green Bay Packers and running back SHAUN ALEXANDER of the Seattle Seahawks are the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week for games played on December 24-27, the NFL announced today.
Favre completed 30 of 43 passes for 365 yards and three touchdowns for a passer rating of 109.2 in the Packers' 34-31 victory over the NFC North-rival Minnesota Vikings. He threw touchdown passes of three, nine and 22 yards and led the Packers 76 yards in the final 1:35 to set up the game-winning field goal.
Alexander carried 30 times for 154 yards and three touchdowns in the Seahawks' 24-21 victory over the NFC West-rival Arizona Cardinals. He scored from one, 17 and 23 yards out, giving him 15 touchdowns in 2004.
Favre and Alexander were selected from among finalists in the air and ground categories through 34,510 fan votes. The other FedEx Express NFL Player of the Week finalists were quarterbacks JAKE DELHOMME of the Carolina Panthers and PEYTON MANNING of the Indianapolis Colts, while running backs DOMANICK DAVIS of the Houston Texans and WILLIS MC GAHEE of the Buffalo Bills were the other finalists for FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week.
Fans voted for more than their favorite players. The weekly FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Awards are also a win for the local community. Along with the player awards, FedEx is awarding Children's Hospital of Wisconsin-Fox Valley and Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center of Seattle, the Children's Hospital in each winning market, a check for $5,000.
The children's hospitals in the two season-long winner's markets, announced at this year's Super Bowl, will be awarded $25,000 each. That means that FedEx will deliver nearly $250,000 to local children's hospitals around the country in recognition of the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Award winners.
